Premier League assist stats 2026/27
Six players share the Premier League assist lead for 2026/27 on three each: Cody Gakpo of Liverpool, Pascal Groß at Brighton & Hove Albion, Evanilson of AFC Bournemouth, Antoine Semenyo at Manchester City, João Pedro of Chelsea and Daichi Kamada at Crystal Palace.
Chances created tells a cleaner story. Groß leads that list too, on 15, so he is the one man converting a high creative volume into finished assists.
Morgan Gibbs-White is second on 14 for Nottingham Forest, with Granit Xhaka of Sunderland, Marcus Rashford at Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes all on 13. Between them Xhaka and Rashford have 26 chances created and no assists at all.
That gap is the usual reminder that an assist depends on someone else finishing. Martin Ødegaard of Arsenal has 12 chances created and nothing to show for it either, which says more about Arsenal’s conversion than his passing.
What is an assist?
Opta defines a Goal Assist as the final touch from a teammate which leads to the recipient scoring a goal. But there are a few caveats.
If the ball is deflected before it reaches the goalscorer, it needs to have been on course to the player anyway for the assist to be awarded.
Unlike Fantasy Assists, there are no assists awarded for own goals, free-kick goals or penalty goals. The only time there would be an assist from a penalty is if the taker chooses to pass the ball for a teammate to score. But even then, the usual assist restrictions apply.

What is a chance created?
Chances created is an accumulative stat. It is the total of Assists and Key Passes made by a player. A Key Pass is the final pas from a player to their teammate who then takes a shot without scoring. These have the same qualifiers as assists.
What do chance creation and assist numbers tell us about a player?
On the face of it, chance creation stats generally tell us who the most creative players in the Premier League are. They are the ones high up on the chance creation list. Chance creation on its own is good because it doesn’t rely on a player scoring a goal.
That’s one of the downsides to tracking assists. A good chance creator may not always have high assist numbers, because their teammates waste chances. But, generally, the best do still rack up good numbers.
There is another drawback to assists in general. A player can record an assist for a five-yard pass before their teammate goes on a mazy run the length of the pitch to score. Or they could message up an action but still have it lead to an assist. That’s why intentional assists are starting to be tracked.
Who are the best creators in Premier League history?
Ryan Giggs remains the player with the most assists in Premier League history, sitting on 162. He’s one of five players to hit a century of assists. Kevin De Bruyne was his closest challenger, but he could only reach 199 before leaving the league in the summer of 2025.
Cesc Fabregas — widely recognised as one of the most creative players in Premier League history — completes the top three on 111. Wayne Rooney (103) and Frank Lampard (102) are the other players with at least 100 assists.
Unfortunately, chance creation stats weren’t tracked from the start of the Premier League. But De Bruyne leads the way since the start of the 2016-17 season with 762 chances created. Bruno Fernandes and Mo Salah sit second and third, respectively, and will be looking to close the gap in 2026-27.
