England Women take on the Netherlands Women in their second Women’s Euro 2025 group stage game at Stadion Letzigrund on Wednesday 9th July at 5pm (UK time). This is a battle between the last two European champions, with England looking to defend their crown. The game will be broadcast live in the UK on BBC One.
Both Teams to Score (4/5 with bet365)
England will be looking to bounce back after their rather embarrassing 2-1 defeat to France in their Euros opener on Saturday. Sarina Wiegman’s team have now won only one of their last four competitive matches, suffering three defeats in that period.
The defeat to France was the first time that England had lost back-to-back games for the first time since 2019. They conceded two or more goals for the third time in four matches, and after those defensive frailties showed, I think there’s plenty of reason to believe that the Netherlands can get on the scoresheet. England need a result here and this could break into a high-scoring contest with both teams finding the net.
Vivianne Miedema to Score First (8/1 with Betway)
Netherlands have scored first in each of their past three games against England across all competitions. The Oranje Leeuwinnen put in a strong showing against Wales last weekend, with a 3-0 victory in a game where Miedema opened the scoring just before half-time. The 28-year-old has now scored 54 goals in 65 appearances for her national side and after finding the net in her last two, I can’t resist having a little poke on her to open the scoring at a juicy 8/1.

How both teams go into England vs Netherlands
This is a tough group for England, and there’s every chance that they could be knocked out before the quarter-finals. Plenty is resting on this game after their France in their group opener. England know a win against the Netherlands is vital. It could either keep them in the competition or put them on the brink of the knockout stages.
England last failed to make it out of the group stage in 2013, when they took just one point from their three games. They’ve won 10 of their 11 European Championship games since.
After defeating Wales in their opening game the Oranje will head into this match knowing another victory would all-but secure their spot in the knockout stages. And the Netherlands have only failed to make it out of the group stage in one of their four European Championship appearances so far — 2013. Three years ago they reached the quarter-finals before being knocked out, as defending champions.
England team news
Sarina Wiegman is expected to stick with the same starting XI that faced France, as she typically avoids major alterations to her lineup. One of the more notable decisions in that match was the inclusion of Lauren James, who had only recently returned from injury.
James, however, justified her selection with a strong performance and is likely to retain her place ahead of Ella Toone. The primary area of uncertainty remains at left-back.
Jess Carter endured a difficult evening in the opener, particularly in dealing with the threat posed by Delphine Cascarino. She was substituted around the 60-minute mark in favor of Niamh Charles, although by then, France had shifted to a more counter-attacking approach.
Netherlands team news
The Netherlands will be hoping to rely on their England-based players to get the edge here, including Vivianne Miedema.
England vs Netherlands head-to-head
England and the Netherlands have faced off three times since Wiegman switched from the Oranje. The Lionesses have won two of those, to the Netherlands’ one victory. But the Netherlands beat England 3-0 en route to winning the European Championship in 2017.
