There has never been a better time to get into women’s football.
We’re into the second half of the 2024-25 season, with all the major European leagues back from their winter breaks. We’ve also seen the draws for the 2024-25 Champions League quarter-finals and the Euro 2025 group stage made.
Women’s Super League
The WSL is the top of the pile in women’s football in England and some will argue that it’s the best league in the world. Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United have become the big four, with the latter the current FA Cup holders.
But no one has managed to take the WSL trophy away from Chelsea. The Blues have won the WSL title in each of the past five seasons. Their streak started with the curtailed 2019-20 campaign which they took on points per game, and it has always been close.
Thanks in part to the WSL being a 22-game league, with 12 teams in total, no one really runs away with the title. After taking the title on points per game, Chelsea have won the league by two points, one point, two points and goal difference. Man City have been runners-up three times, agonisingly missing out in 2023-24 on goal difference.
There was some uncertainty about what the Sonia Bompastor era would bring. After 13 games of the season, Chelsea have taken 37 points, winning 12 and drawing one. Leicester City are the only side to have taken points from Chelsea, but they have bounced back with three wins since. It leaves Chelsea seven points clear at the top of the table with nine games left to play.

UEFA Women’s Champions League
The one competition Emma Hayes couldn’t conquer at Chelsea was the Women’s Champions League. They were beaten finalists in 2020, thrashed by Barcelona, and have fallen to the Blaugrana at the semi-finals in each of the past two seasons. Barcelona will like playing Chelsea in the Champions League as it’s a good omen. They’ve won the Champions League every season they’ve played Chelsea.
Barcelona have now reached the past four Champions League finals, winning three alongside a 3-1 defeat to Lyon in the 2021-22 final. Already, Barcelona are the third-most successful side in Women’s Champions League history. They sit one behind Eintracht Frankfurt (formerly FFC Frankfurt) but are still five off Lyon. Arsenal remain the only English side to have won the Women’s Champions League, lifting the trophy as part of their Quadruple in 2007.
Barcelona, Lyon, Bayern Munich and Chelsea automatically guaranteed their spots in the UWCL group stage for 2024-25. The likes of Arsenal, Man City, Wolfsburg and Real Madrid had to come through qualifying.
And those eight teams make up the quarter-finals, with no surprise exits this time around. The draw for the quarter-finals have now been made, and it’s thrown up some interesting ties.

- Bayern Munich vs Lyon
2024-25 Women’s Champions League semi-final draw

Women’s Euro 2025
England Women brought football home in 2022 when they lifted the European Championship, beating Germany in the final in Wembley. The Lionesses had been invincible under Sarina Wiegman, but they have picked up a few losses since — including the World Cup final.
England secured their spot at Euro 2025, but even then they had to settle for second place in their qualifying group. That had them in Pot 2 for the draw, which threw up a tricky group for the Lionesses.
Wiegman’s side will face France, the Netherlands and Wales in Group D, ending the group stage against their rivals. The tournament kicks off on 2nd July 2025 and runs until 28th July, with the final in Basel.
Women’s Euro 2025 groups
- Group A: Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Finland
- Group B: Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Italy
- Group C: Germany, Poland, Denmark, Sweden
- Group D: France, England, Wales, Netherlands

Women’s football predictions
Today’s Women’s football tips
We will look at add a tips box for the biggest games of each round in the 2024-25 WSL season.
Our betting previews include our tips, of course, but they also include the odds from a host of different bookmakers, our key stats ahead of the fixture, the predictions of our expert writers and a look back at previous meetings between the two clubs.
Women’s football in-play betting tips
In-play betting has become more and more popular by year, and it’s no different for women’s football. Whatever the competition, a lot of punters will be watching each and every game live, given ample opportunity for some in-play betting.
That means you’ll be able to place bets based on how the match is flowing before your eyes, whether you fancy a defender to nick an unlikely goal or the star forward is looking dangerous and you want to back her to strike next.
And what’s more, with most bookmakers also offering cash out on bets, you can react to the action to cash out for a portion of your potential winnings before the game is over.
Full-time results
The most popular market on any sportsbook, a full-time result bet is as simple as it sounds – you’re betting on the eventual outcome of the game.
Whichever tournament you’re watching, from the WSL to Euro 2025, whichever way you see a game heading, you can bet on the outcome with the full-time results market.
You can even bet on which team will win each half or be leading at a certain point. There are also correct score markets, where you can bet on the exact result at full-time, or indeed half-time.
To score and win tips
You might get more value on those short-price odds for the favourites by combining your team to win tip with a goalscorer tip!
Of course, there are plenty of goalscoring markets available regardless, including first scorer, any time scorer, last scorer, to score two or more and many others.
Both teams to score
Exactly what it says on the tin – both teams must score in the 90 minutes for your bet to come in.
These are particularly popular bets to place as multiples, when you’re betting on for example four games and essentially eight different teams to score. Easy pickings with some of the attacking talent set to be on show!
Over 2.5 goals
Similar to the BTTS market, in these markets you’re betting on more than two goals to be scored in the game, which can be particularly popular if you’re expecting a thumping win for one side – or if you’re backing both teams to be on the scoresheet a lot.
Of course, you can also bet on Under 2.5 goals if you’re expecting a lower-scoring game, or you can change the parameters to bet on Under or Over 1.5, 3.5 or 4.5 goals and more. There were a grand total of 437 goals scored at an average of 3.31 per match in the WSL last season.
Double chance
Think the bookies have got the odds all wrong and fancy those underdogs to get the better of their more illustrious opponents?
The double chance bet is perfect for this kind of hunch, as it allows you simply to bet on a team not to lose, giving you both the victory on your chosen team and the draw within the odds.
Bookings
It is often said that officiating in women’s football still has to catch up with regards to harsh decisions, with many fans feeling fouls are often waved away wrongly when they would have been given in the men’s game. This has led to bad injuries, as players look to get as close to the line as possible, knowing they are less likely to be punished.
There are plenty of markets available here, from total bookings, overs and under markets and which team will pick up the first booking in a game. Plus, you can even bet on whether a specific match will feature a red card.
There are also markets available on specific players to be carded or even sent off in a game.
Corners taken
Most bookmakers now offer bet-builder style markets where you can combine different bets from corners, cards, goals and result markets to create a specific, bespoke bet on the game.
But corner markets are worth backing themselves and you can bet on a certain amount of corners in the game, overs and unders markets, team specific amounts and who will win the first corner among other bets.
Women’s football VAR specials
The 2019 Women’s World Cup was used as a trial for the updated Laws of the Game which included more scrutiny for goalkeeper encroachment during penalties. There was also VAR at the tournament, and it returned for the 2023 World Cup and 2024 Olympics.
However, VAR is still sparingly used in women’s club football in Europe. It has been implemented in the Women’s Champions League, but is not in the WSL.
