Who are the favourites to win the Premier League?

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City currently lead the way as the favourites to get their hands on the Premier League crown as they aim to defend their title from the 2020/21 season.

City began the 2020/21 campaign in relatively poor form, however, defeat away to Tottenham Hotspur kicked them into action as they hit a stunning run of form which saw them rise to the top and get their hands on the trophy for the fifth time.

They started this season with a defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium also, which saw their odds drift a little – but Guardiola’s men are still around evens to lift the title this term.

Which teams are expected to put up a fight?

Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea will also have high expectations for the upcoming season. The German’s arrival turned around their mediocre form to see them secure a spot in the top-four on the final day of the season and lift the Champions League trophy after beating Manchester City in the final.

Runners up in the 2020/21 season, Manchester United, are still searching for their first trophy under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The expected additions of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo will boost their confidence going into the campaign as they look to close the gap on their ‘noisy neighbours’.

Liverpool are expected to return to their best this season following a slightly underwhelming 2020/21 campaign which was tarred by the long list of injuries Jurgen Klopp’s men suffered throughout the season. At the time of writing, they’ve picked up seven points from an available nine.

Bookmaker’s dark horses for the Premier League

Although they are hardly dark horses in many people’s eyes, we feel Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are priced extremely high considering they went into the 2020/21 campaign as the defending champions.

At 7/2 with some firms, the Reds will enter the new season with Virgil van Dijk back to full fitness after sitting the majority of the season out as a result of an injury suffered against local rivals Everton.

Beyond the four teams that the bookmakers see as genuine contenders, the only other team priced reasonably are Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites have kicked off the campaign with three consecutive wins, but how long can they keep that up?

Premier League outright odds: Other markets

You can bet on many more outright markets than just the Premier League winner. As well as backing a team to lift the famous trophy, many bookmakers offer markets such as To Finish Top Four, To Be Relegated, To Finish In The Top Half, Without the Big Six and even more player specific markets such as the Top Scorer and the PFA Player of the Year winner.

The teams being backed for the title are obviously among the frontrunners for a top-four finish, but the Without Big Six market is certainly interesting this year. Leicester and West Ham will be expected to be among the running following their impressive 2020/21 campaigns and Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United will be looking to push on from a terrific return to life in the top-flight.

Premier League relegation odds

As is normally the case, the three teams which earned promotion to the Premier League were the three favourites for relegation this season.

Norwich currently remain the outright favourite to go straight back down, while Watford are still a short price to go down, but Brentford’s opening day with over Arsenal has clearly seen their price drift.

Burnley and Newcastle United also make up some of the favourites from sides remaining in the Premier League after both endured relegation scares over the course of the 2020/21 campaign.
