Real Madrid Club World Cup group stage results
Real Madrid were drawn into Group H alongside Al Hilal, Pachuca, and RB Salzburg. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage. Given their squad depth and experience, Real Madrid were favourites to top the group and they did just that.
Matchday 1: Real Madrid 1-1 Al Hilal
Date: 18th June 2025
Venue: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami
Kick-off: 8pm (UK time)
Real Madrid had chances to win their opening match against Al Hilal, taking the lead through Gonzalo Garcia. They were pegged back by a penalty from Ruben Neves just before half-time. Real Madrid missed a penalty of their own in second-half injury time, having to settle for the draw.
Matchday 2: Real Madrid 3-1 Pachuca
Date: 22nd June 2025
Venue: Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte
Kick-off: 8pm (UK time)
Alonso got his first win as Real Madrid manager in his second game in charge. Los Blancos were a lot more comfortable in their 3-1 victory over Mexican side Pachuca, leading 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler. Federico Valverde put Real Madrid three goals clear with 20 minutes to go, meaning there was no panic when Elias Montiel pulled one back for Pachuca.
Matchday 3: Red Bull Salzburg 0-3 Real Madrid
Date: 27th June 2025
Venue: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia
Kick-off: 2am (UK time)
Real Madrid went into their final group game knowing they needed to beat Red Bull Salzburg to guarantee top spot in Group H. And it was another routine victory, this time bringing Real Madrid’s first clean sheet of the tournament. Vinicius Jr, Valverde and Garcia were the goalscorers, setting up an interesting last 16 tie against Juventus.
Real Madrid’s route to the final
It was another laboured result for Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Club World Cup, with a 1-0 win over Juventus. Garcia was once again the hero, scoring the only goal — his third strike at the tournament.
Garcia then popped up with another goal in the quarter-finals against Borussia Dortmund to prime himself for the Golden Boot and seal Real Madrid’s passage to the semi-finals. Garcia’s strike came in the 10th minute, with namesake Francisco Garcia popping up 10 minutes later. But the game went a little crazy in second-half stoppage time as Dortmund scored twice, either side of a Kylian Mbappe goal, leading to an uncomfortable 3-2 scoreline.
Nevertheless, Real Madrid will now take on European champions PSG, hoping to then meet either Chelsea or Fluminense in the final.
The knockout matches are single-leg fixtures, with extra time and penalties used to determine the winner if necessary.
Who are the favourites for the Club World Cup 2025?
While Real Madrid are strong contenders, other teams like Paris Saint-Germain (11/8) and Chelsea (11/4) also pose significant challenges. However, Real Madrid’s blend of experience, tactical nous, and individual brilliance makes them one of the top favourites to lift the 2025 Club World Cup trophy — especially at this late stage.
