PSG Club World Cup 2025 preview
PSG boasted one of the strongest squads at the Club World Cup. Les Rouge-et-Bleu were long branded as a squad of individuals without a structure when the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe were around. Now, it’s a very different story.
Ousmane Dembele has been the standout player, and he’s only played a brief role at the Club World Cup due to injury. He’s returned at the perfect time, though. Even without him, the likes of Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Vitinha and Nuno Mendes have made up a real team, with clear principles and a superb work ethic.
Even in goal, Gianluigi Donnarumma pulls off heroics in big games, and he’s conceded just one goal in six matches this summer.
All of that combined to earn them Champions League glory, while they’ve lifted their fourth straight Ligue 1 title and second domestic double in three years.
Manager Luis Enrique is rewriting the script at the Parc des Princes and PSG are sure to strike fear into even the greatest sides this summer.
PSG Club World Cup group stage results
PSG were drawn into Group B at the Club World Cup, alongside Atletico Madrid, Botafogo and Seattle Sounders. It was a tough group, but PSG did enough to finish top with six points, coming out on top in a three-way head-to-head.
Matchday 1: PSG 4-0 Atletico Madrid
- Date: 15th June 2025
- Venue: Rose Bowl, Pasadena
- Kick-off: 8pm (UK time)
PSG got off to the perfect start at the Club World Cup, thrashing Atletico Madrid 4-0. This was meant to be their toughest task. But two goals in each half did the job against Atleti, who eventually went down to 10 men.
Matchday 2: PSG 0-1 Botafogo
- Date: 20th June 2025
- Venue: Rose Bowl, Pasadena
- Kick-off: 2am (UK time)
This wasn’t the result anyone expected, especially after PSG’s opening win. But Igor Jesus scored the only goal in the first half for Botafogo as they frustrated the European champions. PSG had 16 shots against Botafogo but only hit the target twice.
Matchday 3: Seattle Sounders 0-2 PSG
- Date: 23rd June 2025
- Venue: Lumen Field, Seattle
- Kick-off: 8pm (UK time)
PSG went into the final group game in second, knowing they had to win while Botafogo lost to stand a chance of topping the group. And that’s exactly what happened. Kvaratskhelia and Achraf Hakimi got the goals for PSG against Seattle Sounders, while Atletico Madrid beat Botafogo late on.
PSG route to the final
PSG’s route to the final is becoming clearer. They faced Inter Miami in the last 16, bringing a reunion with Lionel Messi. It wasn’t a happy one for the Argentinian, with PSG scoring four goals in the first half to secure a 4-0 win.
The French side faced Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals in what was a thrilling tie. But it took until the final 15 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, and PSG were the team to go ahead. Another goal came in injury-time and PSG’s quest for world glory continues. They faced Real Madrid in the semi-finals and blew the Spanish side away with their third 4-0 win of the tournament.
Chelsea await in the final on 13th July. The knockout matches are single-elimination games, and if necessary, extra-time and penalties will be used to determine the winner.
