Italy Women are in at the Women’s European Championship for the eighth consecutive tournament, but they’re looking to end a poor run. Read on to see Italy’s fixtures for Women’s Euro 2025, odds to win the tournament and route to the final.
Latest Italy odds to win Women’s Euro 2025
Italy are outsiders to win Women’s Euro 2025, ranked around 18/1 with most bookmakers. That works out to an implied probability of 5.26%. Opta’s pre-tournament predictions from May gave Italy a 3% chance.
Italy Women’s Euro 2025 preview
Italy were involved in the first five Women’s European Championships, when it was just a four-team tournament. They finished fourth in three of those tournaments, but were runners-up in 1993 — a feat they repeated in 1997 when the tournament was upped to eight teams.
But Italy exited the Women’s European Championship at the group stage in four of the previous six editions, with quarter-final exits in the previous two. That run has now ended, with Italy making the semi-finals for the first time since 1997.
Italy Women’s Euro 2025 group stage results
Italy topped their Euro 2025 qualifying group, finishing ahead of the Netherlands on a better head-to-head record. But they were still in Pot 2 for the group stage draw, handing them a tough task of facing Spain, Portugal and Belgium. Opta’s pre-tournament predictions had Italy at 16% to win the group, and 33% to finish second.
Matchday 1: Belgium 0-1 Italy
- Date: Thursday 3rd July
- Venue: Stade de Tourbillon, Sion
- Kick-off: 5pm (UK time)
Italy had to weather the storm in the opening stages against Belgium, relying on their defensive structure and wayward shooting from the Red Flames. In the end it took an excellent strike from Arianna Caruso just before half-time to seal all three points for Italy. It means Italy realistically only need to avoid defeat in their second game to seal their spot in the quarter-finals — unless Belgium shock Spain.
Matchday 2: Portugal 1-1 Italy
- Date: Monday 7th July
- Venue: Stade de Geneve, Geneva
- Kick-off: 8pm (UK time)
Italy thought they were on their way to two wins from two and a spot in the quarter-finals. Le Azzurre were leading Portugal going into the final minutes thanks to Cristiana Girelli’s excellent strike. But an 89th-minute equaliser from Diana Gomes meant Italy had to settle for a point. They’re still in a very good position to reach the quarter-finals though.
Matchday 3: Italy 1-3 Spain
- Date: Friday 11th July
- Venue: Stadion Wankdorf, Bern
- Kick-off: 8pm (UK time)
Italy had a great start against Spain, hitting the woodwork in the ninth minute and scoring the opener just 40 seconds later. However, the lead didn’t last long as La Roja were back level within five minutes, thanks to a wonderful Athenea del Castillo goal. The Spanish No.10 performed another brilliant solo run at the start of the second half that led to Patricia Guijarro striking a loose ball from long range and making it 2-1, before Esther Gonzalez sealed the deal in stoppage time. Despite the defeat, Italy still managed to go through in second place.
Italy route to the final
- Quarter-finals: Finishing as runners-up in Group B, Italy faced Group A winners Norway. And they were too much for their opponents, sealing a 2-1 win to book their spot in the semi-finals.
- Semi-finals: Group D runners-up England are up in the semi-finals.
- Final: In the final, a rematch against Group B winners Spain is the likeliest matchup. But Germany could also await.
