Netherlands Women -1 Match Handicap (7/10 with William Hill)
Wales, making their debut at a major international tournament, are widely considered one of the underdogs in a challenging group, and they face a daunting opener against a seasoned Netherlands side. While the Dutch haven’t been at their absolute best in recent months, their pedigree at this level speaks volumes: they’ve won 17 of their last 22 matches across the World Cup and European Championship, consistently performing when it matters most.
With heavyweights like England and France also in Group C, the Netherlands will be determined to start strong and avoid any early pressure. Given the gulf in experience and quality between the two squads, a comfortable Dutch victory by a margin of at least two goals looks not only likely but necessary if they’re to assert themselves as genuine contenders.
Vivianne Miedema to score First (3/1 with Betway)
If she makes the squad, Vivianne Miedema will be looking to add to her ridiculous tally. The 28-year-old has scored 97 goals in 124 caps for the Netherlands and has four goals in her last seven appearances, including in her most recent international appearance last year against Norway.

How both teams go into Wales vs Netherlands
This is a big moment for Wales as they make their major tournament debut. The Dragons have been close on a few occasions recently, but they haven’t been able to get themselves over the line until now. Wales were in Group B for qualifying and topped their group unbeaten after six games. They won four and drew two, securing promotion to League A and a spot in the play-offs. Both draws came against second-placed Ukraine, with Wales finishing three points clear.
The play-offs weren’t easy for Wales. They had to come from 2-1 down to beat Slovakia 3-2 on aggregate in the first round, needing extra-time in the second leg. Wales also won their second round tie 3-2 on aggregate, this time beating Republic of Ireland — who were also looking to make their European Championship debut. Wales haven’t been able to build on that though, winless in their six competitive games in 2025, with four defeats and two draws.
The Netherlands have appeared in each of the past four Women’s European Championships, with a variety of results. They’ve been eliminated at the group stage, made it to the quarter-finals, semi-finals and lifted the trophy. The Netherlands’ success came in their home tournament in 2017 led by Sarina Wiegman. Their defence ended in the quarter-finals in 2022.
The Netherlands were underwhelming in qualifying for Euro 2025, finishing second in their group. The Oranje only took nine points from six games, with two wins, three draws and one defeat. And they finished below Italy as a result of their inferior head-to-head record. The Netherlands started 2025 fairly well, unbeaten in four games with three wins. But they went winless in their final two Uefa Nations League games, including a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Germany.
Wales team news
The big boost for Wales in their squad was the return of Sophie Ingle, who missed the entire 2024-25 campaign due to an ACL injury. Jess Fishlock is also in the squad after a slight injury worry.
Netherlands team news
Vivianne Miedema should lead the line as she closes in on 100 goals for her country, having returned from injury.
Wales vs Netherlands head-to-head
The Netherlands have won all five of their previous meetings with Wales, conceding just one goal.
