Eight will become four this week as the remaining clubs prepare for the Champions League quarter-final second-legs.
Tuesday sees the Spanish duo of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona go head-to-head in the Spanish capital, while Liverpool will be hoping to conjure up one of their famous European atmospheres at Anfield when they bid to claw their way back against defending champions PSG.
Then on Wednesday, double-hunting Arsenal take on Sporting CP at the Emirates, and Bayern Munich host Real Madrid in Germany in a mouthwatering rematch.

Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona (Agg 2-0)
- Julian Alvarez is bidding to become only the sixth player to score 25 (or more) goals in their first 40 appearances in the competition after Erling Haaland (41), Ruud van Nistelrooy (34), Harry Kane (27), Filippo Inzaghi (27), and Mario Gomez (25).
- Barcelona are looking to become only the third side in European Cup/Champions League history to overturn a 2+ goal first-leg defeat at home to win a knockout tie.
Atletico Madrid beat Barcelona 2-0 at the Nou Camp last week for the first time in 26 games thanks to goals from Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth, in a match which saw the hosts reduced to 10-men just before half-time.
Alvarez’s superb first-leg free-kick was his ninth goal in the competition this season, which took his overall Champions League tally to 24 goals in 39 games. If the Argentine scores in the second-leg he will become only the sixth player to net 25 goals (or more) in their first 40 appearances after Erling Haaland (41), Ruud van Nistelrooy (34), Harry Kane (27), Filippo Inzaghi (27), and Mario Gomez (25).
Atletico Madrid go into the second leg knowing they’ve progressed from all 22 previous UEFA ties after winning the first leg away, while they’re also still unbeaten at home in Champions League knockout games under manager Diego Simeone (W14 D6).
It’s going to be a tough task for visitors Barcelona as they bid to become only the third side in European Cup/Champions League history to overturn a two-goal first-leg loss at home to win a tie. The only two sides in 194 occasions to achieve this feat are Manchester United (2018-19) and Ajax (1968-69).
Barcelona have lost all six of their previous UEFA two-legged ties in which they lost the first-leg at home and could become the first ever Spanish side to concede in 15 straight Champions League games.

Liverpool vs PSG (Agg 0-2)
- Liverpool are bidding to reach the European Cup/Champions League semi-finals for an English record 13th time.
- PSG are chasing a fifth knockout-stage win over English opposition since March 2025.
PSG overturned a first-leg defeat to eliminate Liverpool in last season’s round-of-16 tie, and now the roles are reversed with the Reds looking to respond after a 2-0 loss in Paris. The only time the Merseyside club have ever overturned a 2+ goal first-leg deficit was against Barcelona in 2018-19 when they went on to lift the trophy.
Liverpool can draw on a record of six successes from their last eight Champions League quarter-final ties and have the added incentive of becoming the first English club to reach 13 European Cup/Champions League semi-finals (currently level with Manchester United on 12).
Defending champions PSG will be bidding to become the first French side to reach three consecutive Champions League semi-finals. The Parisians have had the upper hand against English clubs, having lost just one of their last 11 (W8 D2), and are chasing a fifth knockout-stage win over Premier League opposition since March 2025.

Arsenal vs Sporting CP (Agg 1-0)
- Arsenal can reach the Champions League semi-finals in successive seasons for the first time in their history.
- Sporting CP are bidding to become the first Portuguese club to reach the Champions League semi-finals since 2003-04 winners Porto.
Arsenal have been slipping and sliding all over the place domestically, but have won 10 and lost none of their 11 Champions League matches this season, including a 1-0 first-leg win away to Sporting CP last week.
It was Kai Havertz who scored a 91st minute winner in Lisbon, which was his sixth goal in eight appearances in the competition this season. The Gunners, who have never lost in eight games against Sporting, can draw on a very impressive record of winning 19 of their 20 previous ties after winning the first-leg away from home.
Sporting CP will take confidence from Arsenal’s recent wobbly form, which includes a home defeat to Bournemouth last weekend, as they bid to become the first Portuguese club to reach the Champions League semi-finals since Jose Mourinho’s champions Porto in 2003/04.
But, Sporting CP have never beaten the Gunners before and have failed to win any of their last 10 trips to England, with their last win dating back to 2004-05 when they beat Middlesbrough 3-2.

Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid (Agg 2-1)
- Harry Kane needs one more goal to set his best single season Champions League tally (currently on 11 goals).
- Kylian Mbappe could become the third fastest player to reach 70 Champions League goals (in 98 games) behind only Lionel Messi (90) and Robert Lewandowski (93).
Bayern Munich were brilliant in their 2-1 first-leg defeat of Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, and are now many people’s picks to go on and lift the trophy. The German giants now take their one goal advantage back home where they have won 22 of their 23 two-legged ties after winning the first-leg away from home.
Harry Kane has 11 Champions League goals this term and needs one more for a career-best tally in a single season. He boasts a strong record against Real Madrid, with a goal involvement in each of his last four meetings and, if he does score on Wednesday, he will match the longest scoring streak by an English player in the competition (five, set by Steven Gerrard in 2007–08).
You would, however, be a fool to write off Real Madrid, who have won each of their last nine ties against German opposition and their last four against Bayern Munich. However, in order to reach the semi-finals they must recover from a UEFA competition first-leg home loss for the first time since 1970-71.
If Real Madrid win, they will remarkably have the most wins (4) away to Bayern Munich in all competitions of any club since the start of 2013-14, despite not playing in the same domestic league. They are currently level on three wins in this timeframe with Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Kylian Mbappe scored in the first-leg to move onto 69 Champions League goals. If he finds the net again in the return fixture, he’ll reach 70 goals in just 98 appearances – a milestone only Lionel Messi (90 games) and Robert Lewandowski (93) have hit in fewer matches. A goal would also see the Frenchman become the first player to score double figures (10+) in away matches in a single season. Meanwhile, he needs two goals to become the joint-fifth top goalscorer in Champions League history, alongside former Real Madrid star Raul Gonzalez (71).
