Liverpool vs Newcastle: Predictions
After a turbulent and frantic week in football, Liverpool will look to put Monday’s 1-1 draw with Leeds behind them and get back to winning ways when a rejuvenated Newcastle visit Merseyside on Saturday, with Jurgen Klopp’s men looking to keep pace in this season’s exhilarating race for the top four.
The Reds had won three consecutive games prior to the visit of Elland Road earlier this week, but the ever-enigmatic Marcelo Bielsa took the off-field drama in his stride and masterminded a commendable point against the reigning champions, just temporary blunting Liverpool’s top-four aspirations.
As it stands Liverpool sit in seventh but only two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and they could move into the coveted top four with a win, as Thomas Tuchel’s side face a later contest against unexpected European hopefuls West Ham, in what can only be described as a proverbial six-pointer between the capital clubs.
Newcastle meanwhile have hit a bit of form themselves, recently beating West Ham in a five-goal thriller, and Steve Bruce will now be looking to consolidate The Magpies‘ position away from the relegation trapdoor while also hoping to end a 27-year wait for a win at Anfield.

Liverpool vs Newcastle: Match Stats
There are some fixtures so iconic that goals are usually a given, and this is one such contest. The goalless draw on Tyneside over the festive period was simply an anomaly in this historic bout, as this particular fixture boasts 3.12 goals-per-game in Premier League history (159 goals in 51 games), the highest ratio of any of the 31 fixtures to have been played at least 50 times in the competition.

Liverpool’s goalless stalemate with Newcastle in December came just at the start of their mid-season nosedive, having just lost 1-0 to Southampton the game prior and then suffering a 1-0 defeat to Burnley shortly after. That result, in fact, ended a run of five straight defeats for Newcastle against The Reds and they will be hoping to avoid returning to that trend this weekend.
