Barcelona have reached the Final Four of the EuroLeague in each of the past two seasons, finishing as runners-up in 2020/21 and then third in 2021/22, but they will have entered the current campaign looking to end their 13-year wait for a title. It hasn’t been the best of starts to the season for the Spanish side, though, with two wins and two defeats from their opening four matches.

While they may have fancied their chances in the opener against Olympiacos, Barcelona’s 80-70 defeat doesn’t look too bad on reflection considering the Greek side were still perfect after four matches. Barcelona bounced back with a narrow win over Real Madrid in the Clasico and followed that up with a 84-73 victory against Bayern Munich. But the mini-revival came to an end last week with Zalgiris claiming a 73-72 victory thanks to a two-point swing in the final quarter.

Olimpia Milano, meanwhile, will have enjoyed the way they have started the new campaign as they look to win a first major European trophy since 1987/88. The Italian side have won three of their opening four matches to sit sixth in the early table, and will be hoping to build on the momentum as the campaign carries on.

Olimpia opened the campaign with a 69-62 win over LDLC ASVEL but lost their very next match, beaten 80-74 by ALBA Berlin in overtime having come from behind in the final quarter. They weren’t fazed by that defeat, however, and have bounced back to beat Partizan and Bayern Munich in two fairly close victories – coming from behind in the final quarter to win against the latter.
