Baskonia haven’t made it to the playoffs in either of the past two EuroLeague seasons but they have made a good start to the 2022/23 campaign with three wins from their opening four matches. The Spanish side opened the campaign against compatriots Valencia and despite falling behind in the opening quarter they never really looked like taking the loss, eventually winning 81-71.

They then built on that victory with an overtime win against Partizan in what was a rollercoaster of a match which saw Baskonia fall nine points behind and then go four points up in the first half alone. Another win over Serbian opposition followed in the third match with Baskonia beating Crvena zvezda but their unbeaten run came to an end last time out with a 97-92 defeat to Olympiacos – who are near the top of the table.

ASVEL, meanwhile, haven’t been enjoying life in the EuroLeague this season and are also stuttering slightly in France’s LNB Pro A – where they have won three and lost three of their six matches so far. In the EuroLeague it’s one win and three defeats, which leaves ASVEL 15th, with only the two winless teams and Panathinaikos below them in the table.

The French side opened the season in defeat to Olimpia Milano despite leading at half-time, suffering after taking a nine-point lead in the first quarter. They did manage to bounce back in their second match, beating Valencia 77-76 thanks to Jonah Mathews’ late free throw but that has been the height of their campaign. Since that win, ASVEL have lost heavily against Fenerbahce (who are still perfect) and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
