What happened when Stuart Attwell last refereed Tottenham?
Attwell was the referee for Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Liverpool in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final last season. There was a bit of controversy about Tottenham’s winner, though, scored by Lucas Bergvall. Liverpool fans felt that Attwell had missed a second yellow card for a foul by Bergvall on Kostas Tsimikas just a few moments earlier. Tsimikas hadn’t yet returned to the pitch after receiving treatment on the sidelines for the foul. Attwell also became the first referee in England to make a stadium announcement for a VAR decision, in ruling out a late Dominic Solanke goal.
