NHL trade tracker 2026-27: every trade, signing and waiver claim

This NHL trade tracker lists every trade of the 2026-27 league year, newest first, with what each club gave up and got back. It is updated twice a day from the NHL’s official trade list. Since the league year opened on 1 July there have been 18 trades, and eight of them involved one of the seven Canadian clubs. Below the trades are the club-by-club breakdown, the June trades made around the draft, the latest NHL signings and waiver claims, and how the trade deadline works. 19+ (18+ in AB, MB and QC).

Every completed trade since 1 July, newest first. Each row shows what both clubs received, with players listed by position and draft picks by year and round, so a deal reads the same from either side. The trade terms are explained further down.

NHL trades by Canadian club

Pick a club to see its trades since the June window opened, the signings it has reported since 1 July, and its waiver activity. Toronto has been the busiest Canadian trader since June, with six trades.

The June 2026 trade window

Most of the off-season’s trading happened before 1 July, around the draft. Those deals belong to the 2025-26 league year, which is why they sit outside the count above. There were 43 trades that moved at least one player. Of those, 14 involved a Canadian club, including Brady Tkachuk’s move from Ottawa to Florida and Simon Nemec’s from New Jersey to Calgary. The 21 pick-for-pick swaps made on draft days are left out.

NHL signings

There were 25 signings reported in the last 30 days, listed newest first, and three of them were extensions for players already under contract. Professional tryouts are left out because they are not NHL contracts. We show the length of each deal. Salaries are not listed.

NHL waivers and waiver claims

The clubs’ transaction reports list four waiver claims since 1 July. All of them came in the last days of training camp, as clubs cut down to their opening-night rosters. Those reports can run a day or two behind, so a claim made today may only appear at a later update. The claims come first below, then everyone placed on waivers in the last seven days.

How NHL waivers work

A player on waivers can be claimed by any other club for 24 hours. If several clubs put in a claim, he goes to the one lowest in the standings by points percentage, and until 1 November that order comes from last season’s final standings.

Young players are exempt. The exemption lasts a set number of seasons or NHL games after a player signs, whichever comes first, so a skater who signs at 18 is exempt for five years or 160 NHL games. A player who clears waivers can then be sent to the minors.

The 2027 NHL trade deadline

The NHL has not yet announced the date of the 2027 trade deadline, and this page will give it once the league does. Last season the deadline fell on Friday 6 March 2026, at 3 p.m. ET.

Deadline week is when most of the season’s trading happens. Last season 31 trades were completed on 5 March and 6 March, 22 of them on deadline day itself, and 15 involved a Canadian club.

Trades are still allowed after the deadline, but they are rare and small. The bigger change is eligibility: a player acquired after the deadline cannot play for his new club in the playoffs.

The salary cap now applies in the playoffs too. Since 2026, the 18 skaters and two goaltenders a club dresses for each playoff game must fit under the regular-season limit, which closes the old loophole of keeping an injured star on long-term injured reserve through the deadline and bringing him back for the playoffs.

How NHL trades work

Retained salary

A club can keep paying part of a traded player’s salary so the deal fits under the other club’s cap. It can retain up to 50 per cent of the cap hit. The same share then applies to every remaining year of the contract.

There are limits. A club can carry no more than three retained contracts, and the retained money cannot exceed 15 per cent of the salary cap. The same contract can be retained on only twice. Under the new collective agreement, a second retention cannot come within 75 regular-season days of the first, which ends the quick three-team deals clubs once used to double the discount.

The latest example on this page: Columbus kept 18 per cent of Elvis Merzlikins’ salary when it sent him to Toronto on 28 September.

No-trade and no-movement clauses

A no-trade clause means a player cannot be traded without his consent. He can still be placed on waivers, and sent to the minors if he clears. A modified version works from a list of teams.

A no-movement clause goes further. The player cannot be traded, waived or sent to the minors without agreeing to it. Only players aged 27 or older, or with seven accrued seasons, can have either clause, and both stay with the player if he is traded.

Conditional picks and future considerations

A conditional pick changes round or year if something happens after the trade, such as the club reaching the playoffs, the player reaching a games-played target or signing an extension. Clubs do not always publish the condition.

Future considerations is an unspecified return, and it mostly turns up in small deals for depth players. Four of the 18 trades since 1 July used it, and one included a conditional pick.

The holiday roster freeze

Clubs cannot trade, waive or loan players during the holiday roster freeze. It normally runs from 11:59 p.m. local time on 19 December to 12:01 a.m. on 28 December. The NHL has not yet published this season’s dates, so treat those as the usual window.

Betting on the NHL after a trade

A trade can move the futures markets within minutes. When a contender adds a goaltender or a top-pair defenceman, its Stanley Cup price usually shortens and the seller’s tends to drift. Player markets move too. A new linemate or a bigger power-play role changes what a player is expected to score, and the season-long props follow.

Two cautions. Prices react before the new player has skated with his team, so the first move is a guess about fit. A trade that clears cap space for a later move can matter more than the deal itself.
