NBA MVP Odds 2026-27: Wembanyama, Gilgeous-Alexander and the MVP Race

Victor Wembanyama is the favourite in the NBA MVP odds, priced at +190 to +200 across six major sportsbooks. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Toronto-born guard who has won the last two, is at +320 to +400, level with Luka Doncic in the middle of the market (+250 to +600). Nobody has won three in a row since Larry Bird.

Below is the full board as we checked it on 30 October 2026, how the prices have moved since the summer, the live MVP race from this season’s box scores, and what the 65-game rule means for anyone who misses time. 19+ (18+ in AB, MB and QC).

Anthony Edwards is missing from five of the six boards. Only Hard Rock still prices him, at +1500, after his knee surgery on 29 October. Kawhi Leonard’s price runs from +10000 to +50000, a sign the books disagree about his knee.

Games matter more than they used to. Luka Doncic has missed one game and Cooper Flagg has missed one game so far, and the 65-game rule below means every absence now counts.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Canadian angle

Gilgeous-Alexander is the only Canadian near the top of the NBA MVP odds. He won the MVP in 2024-25 and again in 2025-26, and he went into last season as only the third favourite, at +550. Steve Nash, who grew up in Victoria, is the only other Canadian to win it, in 2004-05 and 2005-06.

A third straight award would put him with Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Larry Bird, the only players to do it. Oklahoma City has lost Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace to surgery and Alex Caruso to an ankle sprain, so more of the attack runs through him, which is usually how MVP cases are built.

The 65-game rule and NBA MVP odds

Since 2023-24, a player has to play at least 20 minutes in 65 regular-season games to be eligible for MVP, with two games of 15 to 20 minutes allowed to count. Miss 18 games and the award is gone, however well he played.

That changes how to read a long price on an injured star. Edwards, out for up to two months, could miss more than the 17 games the rule allows. Doncic’s back is worth watching for the same reason. Check the NBA injury report before backing anyone with a history of missed games.
