The leading rookies

Cameron Boozer, Memphis

Duke’s Boozer went third in the draft and gives Memphis 17.4 points and 10.3 rebounds a game. In Portland on 29 October he had 18 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists.

Yaxel Lendeborg, Golden State

At 24, the Michigan forward is older than most of this class. Golden State took him 11th, and he is scoring 21.5 a game, with 37 against the Clippers on 1 November and 31 with 12 rebounds before that.

Darius Acuff Jr., Sacramento

No rookie scores more. Acuff, the seventh pick, averages 26.1, and when the Kings went to Memphis on 31 October he outscored Boozer 38 to 27, though Memphis won 136-105. He also had 34 with 14 assists in New Orleans.

Caleb Wilson, Chicago

Wilson, from North Carolina, had 30 points and 14 rebounds against Washington in his third game. He averages 21.6 for Chicago, and his price runs from +375 to +500.

Before backing a rookie, check his status on our NBA injury report, updated every day.

Canada and the Rookie of the Year award

No Canadian rookie is priced this season. Andrew Wiggins, born in Toronto, was the first Canadian to win the award, with Minnesota in 2014-15, and none has won it since. He now plays for Miami.

The Raptors have had three winners: Damon Stoudamire in 1995-96, Vince Carter in 1998-99 and Scottie Barnes in 2021-22. This year’s Toronto rookie is Allen Graves, the No. 19 pick from Santa Clara, priced from +25000 to +35000. Every Canadian in the league is on our Canadians in the NBA page.

Who is eligible, and how the award is decided

The 65-game rule that governs MVP and most other awards does not apply to Rookie of the Year. There is no minimum, so Dybantsa’s four missed games count for less here than they would in the MVP race.

A panel of media members votes after the regular season, which ends in April, and the winner is named during the playoffs.
