NFL Draft Order 2027

Updated Thursday 24 September 2026, after every Week 2 game. This is the order the 2027 NFL draft would run in if the season stopped now, for all 32 teams, with the tiebreaker that actually decides it shown alongside.

One thing worth saying before the table, because most draft-order pages do not. After two weeks, exactly one team sits in a slot of its own. Atlanta hold the first pick outright. The other 31 are stacked in nine groups where every team inside the group has the same record and the same strength of schedule, so nothing separates them yet. A list that numbered them 1 through 32 would be inventing precision that does not exist, so the ranges below are real.

Where the order is genuinely tied

Nine groups, and the largest holds six teams. This is what a draft order looks like when everyone has played twice.

The six-way ties are the ones to watch. Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Carolina, Dallas, the Jets and Baltimore are all 1-1 having played opponents who are a combined 1-3, and any single result this weekend will scatter them. The same is true of Green Bay, Denver, Detroit, the Rams, New England and Chicago at the other end of the 1-1 band.

How the NFL draft order is decided

Three rules, applied in order.

Reverse record, for the teams that miss out. The 18 clubs that do not reach the playoffs take picks 1 to 18, worst record first. That is the whole of the rule for most of the board, and it is why a bad September matters more to this page than to any other on the site.

Playoff teams fill 19 to 32 by how far they got. The 14 who qualify are slotted by elimination round, so the wild-card losers pick before the divisional losers, and so on. The Super Bowl loser picks 31st and the champion picks 32nd. No team that reaches the playoffs can pick earlier than 19th, however poor its record was.

Ties go to strength of schedule, and the weaker schedule picks first. This is the part that catches people out, because it runs opposite to how the playoff tiebreakers work. In the seeding race a strong schedule helps you; in the draft order it costs you. Miami and Houston are the clearest example on the board right now: both are 0-2, both have been beaten twice, and both sit behind five other 0-2 teams purely because their opponents are a combined 4-0. Anything still level after that goes to the divisional and conference tiebreakers, and then to a coin toss at the scouting combine.

The race for the first overall pick

Atlanta lead it, but the margin is thinner than the record suggests. The Falcons have been outscored by 38 points in two games, the worst in the league, though Miami at minus 36 are barely better off. What separates Atlanta is the other end: 16 points scored in two games, fewer than any other team. They also have the weakest schedule of any winless team, with their two opponents a combined 2-2, so they hold the tiebreaker as well as the record.

The chasing group is five deep and all of them are 0-2 against tougher opposition: the Chargers, Indianapolis, Washington, Tennessee and Tampa Bay. Tennessee are the interesting name there, because our NFL power rankings have them 32nd of 32 and our model gives them a 0 per cent chance of reaching the playoffs, the only team in the league on zero. The record puts them somewhere in the 2-to-6 band; the projection says they finish higher than that.

That gap between where a team sits today and where the season is heading is the thing to hold on to. Two weeks is 12 per cent of a season, and every team below Atlanta is one bad month from passing them.

What changes from here

Three things, in rough order of when they bite.

Separation, from around Week 10. Until then most of the board is tied and the order is noise. Once teams start stacking losses the groups break apart and the top five becomes stable enough to argue about.

The playoff cut, in late December. The moment the 14 qualifiers are known, the board splits into the 18 and the 14, and several teams with poor records but a playoff berth drop from the teens to the twenties overnight.

Trades, all the way through. The order here is the order each team has earned. Picks themselves change hands constantly, so by the Thursday night in late April when the first round is called, the club on the clock is often not the club that finished with that record. Nothing on this page accounts for a traded pick, and any page claiming to this early is guessing.

Following the draft from Canada

The draft runs over three days in late April, with the first round on the Thursday in prime time. Canadian coverage of the NFL runs through TSN and DAZN, and the draft has historically been one of the easier events to find here because it sits on national television rather than behind a regional package. Broadcast arrangements are confirmed for each draft closer to the date, so check your provider rather than taking last season’s listing.
