Minnesota Wild 2026-27 season outlook
Written 28 September 2026. The Wild open 2026-27 away to the Nashville Predators on Thursday 1 October with Quinn Hughes in the last year of his contract. Hughes, acquired from Vancouver in December 2025, can become an unrestricted free agent on 1 July 2027 and said on 9 September that he was in no rush to sign.
Last season the Wild went 46-24-12 for 104 points, third in the Central Division and seventh in the league. They beat Dallas in six games, their first series win since 2015. Colorado then won in five. Kirill Kaprizov scored 45 goals and Matt Boldy 42, the first time two Wild players have scored 40 in the same season.
Blake Coleman and Olli Määttä, both two-time Stanley Cup winners, arrived from Calgary on 2 July in a trade for defenceman Jake Middleton and three draft picks. Maxim Shabanov and goalie Calvin Pickard signed as free agents. Mats Zuccarello left for Los Angeles and Marcus Johansson for Färjestad in Sweden, and Vladimir Tarasenko was not re-signed.
Jesper Wallstedt, who started 10 of the 11 playoff games, and Pickard open the season in goal. Filip Gustavsson is recovering from hip surgery; a report on 18 September put his return around early November. Defenceman Brock Faber took a puck to the head in a preseason game on 25 September, with an update due on 29 September.
Kaprizov begins the eight-year contract he agreed in September 2025. Coach John Hynes signed an extension on 15 September, and Bill Guerin, named the NHL’s general manager of the year in June, also serves as president of hockey operations. On Bet99’s July board the Wild were +1300 for the Stanley Cup, seventh of 32.

Counting the NHL’s own listings for the 84 regular-season games, 16 on TVA Sports, 16 on Sportsnet, 14 on Sportsnet+, 5 on Sportsnet One and 3 on Sportsnet 360. Regional listings add 3 on Sportsnet West, 2 on RDS, 2 on Sportsnet East, 1 on TSN3, 1 on TSN2, 1 on TSN4, 1 on Sportsnet Pacific and 1 on TSN5. 35 games have no Canadian network in the NHL’s listings. A game can appear on more than one channel, so the counts overlap, and listings change through the season.
Of the 35 games without a Canadian network, 32 are the Wild’s US regional broadcasts and three are US national games. In Canada, Rogers holds the out-of-market rights, so those games stream on Sportsnet+ Premium, which is sold on its own rather than through a TV package, and NHL Centre Ice through a TV provider is the other route. Minnesota Wild odds and how the market sees them
The Wild markets with the most depth are the season-long futures: the Stanley Cup, the Western Conference, the Central Division, a regular-season points total and a yes-or-no price on making the playoffs. Minnesota Wild history
The Minnesota North Stars left for Dallas in 1993, and on 25 June 1997 the NHL awarded the state an expansion team for 2000-01. The club, named the Wild on 22 January 1998, opened with Doug Risebrough as general manager and Jacques Lemaire as coach. Marián Gáborík, the third pick in the 2000 draft, scored the club’s first goal at Anaheim on 6 October 2000, and No. 1 was retired for the fans before the first home game on 11 October. In 2003, their first playoff year, the Wild came back from 3-1 down to beat Colorado and then Vancouver in seven games, before Anaheim swept them in the Western Conference Final.
Lemaire’s Wild won the Northwest Division in 2007-08, still their only division title. Craig Leipold bought the club in 2008, and Mikko Koivu became its first permanent captain in October 2009. Zach Parise and Ryan Suter signed identical 13-year contracts as free agents in 2012, and the Wild reached the second round in 2014 and 2015, losing to Chicago both times, in six games and then in a sweep. It was 11 years before they won another series. Kirill Kaprizov won the Calder Trophy in 2021, but from 2016 to 2025 the Wild lost seven first-round series.
Bill Guerin became general manager in August 2019, and John Hynes replaced Dean Evason as coach on 27 November 2023. The Wild missed the playoffs in 2024 and lost to Vegas in the first round in 2025. Then came two big commitments: Kaprizov signed an eight-year contract on 30 September 2025, and on 12 December the Wild traded Marco Rossi, Zeev Buium, Liam Öhgren and a first-round pick to Vancouver for Quinn Hughes, the 2023-24 Norris Trophy winner. They finished with 104 points and beat Dallas in six games, with Hughes scoring the Game 6 winner on 30 April 2026. Colorado won the next series in five, Brett Kulak scoring in overtime of Game 5 on 13 May after Minnesota had led 3-0.
Most famous player: Mikko Koivu
The Wild drafted Koivu sixth overall in 2001, and he made his NHL debut in November 2005 after a season with the club’s AHL affiliate in Houston. On 20 October 2009 he became the franchise’s first permanent captain, ending years in which the Wild had rotated the C month by month, and he held the role until 2020. He also captained Finland to gold at the 2011 World Championship and was a Selke Trophy finalist as a defensive forward in 2016-17.
Koivu passed Marián Gáborík as the club’s career points leader in March 2014, and on 1 December 2019 he became the first player to reach 1,000 regular-season games for the Wild. His 1,028 games, 504 assists and 709 points are still franchise records. He left for Columbus as a free agent in October 2020, retired in February 2021, and on 13 March 2022 his No. 9 became the first number the Wild retired for a player. Kirill Kaprizov, who passed Gáborík’s goals record in March 2026, is second in points with 475.
