Utah Mammoth 2026-27 season outlook
Written 28 September 2026. The Mammoth open 2026-27 at home to Chicago on 1 October, and the Blackhawks were also the visitors for the franchise’s first game, a 5-2 Utah win on 8 October 2024. Expectations are higher after a first playoff appearance, and the club added Vincent Trocheck and Anders Lee to bring experience to a young core. The Central remains hard: Colorado, Dallas and Minnesota were three of the league’s top seven teams last season.
Last season brought the franchise’s first playoff place. The Mammoth went 43-33-6 for 92 points and took the West’s first wild card, then led Vegas 2-1 in the first round before losing Games 4 and 5 in overtime and the series in six. Captain Clayton Keller led the team with 88 points, and Dylan Guenther scored 40 goals, a first for the franchise.
JJ Peterka, who scored 25 goals last season, went to Boston at the draft for two first-round picks, and Utah sent one of them, the 23rd pick, to Detroit for goaltender Sebastian Cossa. On 1 July the Mammoth traded Sean Durzi, prospect Cole Beaudoin and a third-round pick to the Rangers for Trocheck and signed Lee, the Islanders’ captain for the last eight of his 14 seasons there. Alex Kerfoot, Ian Cole and Vitek Vanecek left as free agents. Utah also matched New Jersey’s offer sheet for Barrett Hayton and traded up to 17th in the draft to take winger Ethan Belchetz.
Karel Vejmelka, who started 63 games last season, is expected to carry most of the load again. Cossa, who has played 45 minutes in the NHL, backs him up after going 26-8-4 with a .915 save percentage for AHL Grand Rapids, and the schedule grows to 84 games. Defenceman Maveric Lamoureux is expected to miss time with an upper-body injury from the 22 September preseason game in Los Angeles.
The Mammoth host Colorado in the Winter Classic at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City on 31 December, the franchise’s first outdoor game. First-round picks Caleb Desnoyers, fourth overall in 2025, and Tij Iginla, sixth in 2024, were assigned to AHL Tucson on 25 September. On Bet99’s July board the Mammoth were +3000 for the Stanley Cup, joint 12th of 32.
Utah Mammoth schedule 2026-27
The next five Mammoth games, the last five results and the full 84-game regular season, updated twice a day. Use the tabs to switch between them. Times are Eastern with Mountain time alongside, TV is the Canadian broadcaster listed by the NHL, and “2nd night” marks the second game of a back-to-back. The Mammoth play 10 back-to-backs this season, and November is the busiest stretch with 15 games.
Where to watch Mammoth games in Canada
Counting the NHL’s own listings for the 84 regular-season games, 12 on Sportsnet+, 11 on TVA Sports, 9 on Sportsnet, 6 on Sportsnet One, 4 on Sportsnet 360, 1 on Prime Video and 1 on TVA Sports 2. Regional listings add 3 on Sportsnet West, 2 on TSN4, 2 on TSN2, 2 on RDS, 1 on TSN3, 1 on TSN5 and 1 on RDS2. 42 games have no Canadian network in the NHL’s listings. A game can appear on more than one channel, so the counts overlap, and listings change through the season.
Of the 42 games without a Canadian network, 40 are the Mammoth’s US regional broadcasts and two are US national games. In Canada, Rogers holds the out-of-market rights, so those games stream on Sportsnet+ Premium, which is sold on its own rather than through a TV package, and NHL Centre Ice through a TV provider is the other route. Blackouts apply.
Utah Mammoth roster 2026-27
The current Mammoth roster has 24 players, nine of them born in Canada. Until opening night this is the club’s training-camp list, so it shrinks as players are sent down before the season starts. The status column shows any player on the injury report.

Utah Mammoth odds and how the market sees them
The Mammoth markets with the most depth are the season-long futures: the Stanley Cup, the Western Conference, the Central Division, a regular-season points total and a yes-or-no price on making the playoffs. On Bet99’s board on 30 July 2026 the Mammoth were +3000 to win the Stanley Cup, joint 12th of the 32 teams on the board, level with Buffalo, Los Angeles and New Jersey. Our Stanley Cup odds page carries the current prices for all 32 teams.
Three things move a Mammoth price during the season. The starting goalie matters most, and the injury section above tracks him. The schedule is next: the Mammoth play 10 back-to-backs, and second nights are where tired legs and backup goalies show up in the lines. Then there is form, which our power rankings measure each week, and the race itself in the playoff picture. Picks for the weekend slate are in our Saturday predictions column.

Utah Mammoth history
The NHL’s Board of Governors approved a franchise in Utah on 18 April 2024, owned by Ryan and Ashley Smith’s Smith Entertainment Group. The Board also made the Arizona Coyotes franchise inactive, and the Coyotes transferred all their hockey assets to Utah: the players, the reserve list, the draft picks and the hockey operations department. The NHL counts Utah as a new franchise, and the Coyotes’ 1996-2024 records stay with the inactive Arizona franchise. Playing as the Utah Hockey Club, with Clayton Keller as its first captain, the team beat Chicago 5-2 at the Delta Center in its first game on 8 October 2024, when Dylan Guenther scored the franchise’s first goal. It finished sixth in the Central with 89 points and missed the playoffs.
The permanent identity came a year later. On 7 May 2025 the club became the Utah Mammoth, the fans’ choice after four rounds of surveys and more than 850,000 votes, and that September it moved into a two-rink practice facility built inside a former Macy’s store in Sandy. The Delta Center, shared with the NBA’s Utah Jazz, is being rebuilt in stages so that every seat has a full view of the ice. The core came from Arizona’s drafts, with Keller taken seventh overall in 2016, Guenther ninth in 2021 and Logan Cooley third in 2022. The club has not yet reached a Stanley Cup Final.
The breakthrough came in 2025-26. Utah went 43-33-6 for 92 points, clinched the franchise’s first playoff place on 9 April 2026 and finished as the West’s first wild card, and Guenther became its first 40-goal scorer. In the first round against Vegas, Cooley’s late goal won Game 2 in Las Vegas for the franchise’s first playoff win, and Lawson Crouse scored twice in a 4-2 win in Game 3, the first home playoff game in club history. The Golden Knights won Game 4 in overtime and Game 5 in double overtime, then ended the series 5-1 in Game 6 at the Delta Center on 1 May 2026.
Most famous player: Clayton Keller
Arizona drafted Keller seventh overall in 2016, and he led the Coyotes in goals, assists and points in 2023-24, their last season before the franchise was made inactive. He came to Utah with the rest of the roster, and on 4 October 2024, four days before the first game, he was named the first captain in franchise history. He led the team with 90 points in 2024-25, a career high.
In 2025-26 he had 88 points, including a career-high 62 assists, and led Utah in scoring again as the club reached the playoffs for the first time. His teammates voted him team MVP. In February 2026 he won Olympic gold with the United States in Milan, which made him one of two American players with gold at the under-18, world junior, world championship and Olympic levels. His 178 points and 122 assists in 163 games lead the franchise.
Clayton Keller’s Mammoth totals, from the NHL’s official statistics: 163 games, 56 goals, 122 assists and 178 points.
Stanley Cups
The Mammoth have never won the Stanley Cup.
Arenas
| Arena | Years | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Delta Center | 2024-present | Shared with the NBA’s Utah Jazz, it was the Salt Lake Ice Center during the 2002 Winter Olympics. It is being rebuilt in stages for hockey: new lower-bowl seating in 2025, a steeper upper north end in 2026 and work on the south end due in 2027. |
Delta Center holds 14,111 for hockey. It opened in October 1991 as the Delta Center, was renamed EnergySolutions Arena in 2006, Vivint Smart Home Arena in 2015 and Vivint Arena in 2020, and took back the Delta Center name in 2023.
Retired numbers
The Mammoth have not retired a number, and no ceremony has been announced. Utah is a new franchise, so the numbers the Arizona Coyotes retired or honoured did not carry over, and Shane Doan’s No. 19, retired by the Coyotes, is now worn by Daniil But.
