Switzerland and Bosnia-Herzegovina continue their World Cup 2026 campaigns when they meet at SoFi Stadium for their Group B encounter.
Things are all-square going into the second round of fixtures in Group B, with two draws in the opening matches. So both sides will be looking for wins to seriously bolster their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages. Kick-off is scheduled for 8pm (UK time) on Thursday 18th June.
Switzerland vs Bosnia-Herzegovina predictions & betting tips
| Our Prediction | Odds & Bookmaker | Confidence | Why We’re Backing It |
|---|---|---|---|
| Denis Zakaria over 2.5 tackles | 3/1 @ Betway (25%) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Zakaria made three tackles in Switzerland’s draw with Qatar in their opening game, the most of any Swiss player. He is thriving as a defensive midfielder playing at right-back, who roles that often go up against each other when it comes to tackle numbers. Zakaria came into the World Cup having averaged 1.68 tackles per 90 minutes for Monaco in Ligue 1 in 2025-26. Bosnia-Herzegovina are high-tacklers too, so this could be an interesting battle. |
| Correct Score – Switzerland 1-1 Bosnia-Herzegovina | 7/1 @ AK Bets (9.1%) | ⭐⭐ | With both sides drawing in their opening games, Switzerland and Bosnia-Herzegovina do need to step things up. A win here will do wonders for their knockout round qualification hopes. But there will also be a fear of losing, leaving whoever ends up on the wrong end of the result adrift at the bottom. Both Switzerland and Bosnia-Herzegovina led in their opening matches and were the better side in key moments, before eventually succumbing to late pressure. They could cancel each other out here, particularly with Bosnia-Herzegovina having drawn their past six matches across all competitions. |

How both teams go into Switzerland vs Bosnia-Herzegovina
Switzerland continued an unbeaten run in their opening World Cup game against Qatar, despite the disappointment of the dropped points late on. The A-Team are unbeaten in their opening game in each of their past seven World Cup appearances. That run started in the United States in 1994, as Switzerland held the hosts to a 1-1 draw en route to the last-16.
To brighten Switzerland’s hopes, they’ve only failed to make it out of the group stage in one of those seven World Cups. That was in 2010 when they actually started the tournament with a 1-0 win over eventual champions Spain. A draw with Honduras in their final game ended Switzerland’s chances of reaching the knockout stages. But Switzerland will be positive about their chances of making the last-32 this time around.
Bosnia-Herzegovina don’t have the World Cup experience of their opponents. At least, not as their own nation. This is just Bosnia-Herzegovina’s second World Cup tournament, after making their debut in 2014. Then, they finished third in their group having won one of their three games. They lost their opening match that year against Argentina.
So Bosnia-Herzegovina have already got off to a better start in 2026. They’ll also take positives from their draw with Canada, even though they did drop points from a winning position. Bosnia-Herzegovina go into this game unbeaten in nine games across all competitions, since a defeat to Austria last September. However, Bosnia-Herzegovina have drawn seven of those matches, including both the semi-final and final of their World Cup qualifying play-off.
Switzerland team news
Switzerland look to have come through their opening game against Qatar unscathed in terms of injuries. So Murat Yakin may be persuaded to keep the same starting XI. If he were to make a change, though, it could come in attack. Dan Ndoye, Breel Embolo and Ruben Vargas were the attacking trio against Qatar, but they only managed to score from the penalty spot. Noah Okafor and Zeki Amdouni are among those fighting for a chance.
Denis Zakaria is expected to continue at right-back over Silvan Widmer after his impressive performance in the first game. On the opposite flank, Ricardo Rodriguez is still going strong as a World Cup cult hero. Switzerland have a settled midfield trio of Granit Xhaka, Remo Freuler and Michel Aebischer.
Bosnia-Herzegovina team news
There were a few worries when Sead Kolasinac came off late on against Canada, with fears that it was injury related. But the left-back had no issues and is fit to play from the start here. He’ll form part of a settled back four alongside Tarik Muharemovic, Nikola Katic and Amar Dedic.
Edin Dzeko will be hoping to get on the pitch this game, having been an unused substitute last time out. But he will likely have to make do with an appearance from the bench. Ermedin Demirovic and Jovo Luvic worked well together as the strike partnership, with the former able to drop slightly deeper into the No.10.

Head-to-head
This will be just the second meeting between these two nations, but the previous game was just over 10 years ago. So not too much can be taken from Bosnia-Herzegovina’s 2-0 victory over Switzerland. Edin Dzeko did score the opening goal, though, and is still in Bosnia-Herzegovina’s World Cup squad.

Will someone be able to take the advantage in Group B?
Switzerland are the odds-on favourites for this game, aided by their World Cup experience and quality on paper.
But Bosnia-Herzegovina have proven themselves tough to beat. Their nine-game unbeaten run — with seven draws — leads us to believe there’ll be a similar result there. A correct score of Switzerland 1-1 Bosnia-Herzegovina looks good value at 7/1 with AK Bets.
There will be a lot of intense battles across the pitch, with Bosnia-Herzegovina posted high tackle numbers in their opening game. Switzerland’s Denis Zakaria will hold his own, though, and we’re backing the makeshift right-back to make over 2.5 tackles at 3/1 with Betway.
