Mexico vs South Africa Bet Builder Tips

Julian Quinones Anytime Goalscorer

Julian Quinones looks Mexico’s biggest attacking threat heading into the tournament and arrives in excellent form. The forward enjoyed a prolific end to the Saudi Pro League campaign, scoring a hat-trick on the final day to overtake Ivan Toney and finish as the division’s leading scorer.

That performance capped another outstanding season for Quinones, who has developed into one of the most consistent goalscorers in Asian football since joining Al-Qadsiah. He has netted 53 times in just 59 appearances for the club and rarely goes long without finding the back of the net.

With South Africa likely to sit deep and limit space in dangerous areas, Mexico may need a moment of quality to break the deadlock. Quinones has produced those moments regularly over the past 12 months and heads into World Cup 2026 with confidence high.

Cesar Montes to be carded

Meanwhile, Cesar Montes has developed a habit of collecting cards for Mexico, picking up seven yellow cards across his last 13.8 appearances worth of 90 minutes. The centre-back plays on the front foot and, as a result, is rarely afraid to make a tactical foul when opponents break into dangerous areas. In fact, he regularly looks to disrupt attacks before they gather momentum. Consequently, he often finds himself under the referee’s scrutiny, particularly against quick and direct forwards. With that in mind, discipline could prove crucial if he is to avoid another booking here.

That approach could put him under pressure against Lyle Foster, who has consistently won fouls throughout the season. The South Africa forward is averaging 1.02 fouls drawn per 90 minutes and will look to use his pace and movement to unsettle Mexico’s back line.

If Foster can force Montes into physical duels, the Mexican defender may find himself walking a disciplinary tightrope once again.
