France’s World Cup dream came to an end as Spain booked their place in the final with a deserved 2-0 victory in Dallas. Didier Deschamps’ side struggled to match Spain’s intensity throughout, falling behind in the first half when Mikel Oyarzabal converted from the penalty spot after Lucas Digne caught Lamine Yamal with a high challenge inside the area. Spain doubled their advantage after the break as Pedro Porro finished off a flowing move, leaving Les Bleus with too much to do.
France’s attacking stars never found their rhythm against a disciplined Spanish side. Kylian Mbappe, Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembele were restricted to half chances, while Spain controlled long periods of possession and looked dangerous every time they broke forward. Didier Deschamps introduced fresh legs in search of a response, but La Roja remained composed defensively and comfortably saw out the closing stages.
The result sends Spain into their second World Cup final, where they will face the winner of England and Argentina, while France’s hopes of reaching a third consecutive final come to an end. After impressing throughout the tournament, Les Bleus simply came up against a Spain side who defended superbly and punished the key moments.
