Colombia vs Portugal team news and predicted XIs

Colombia need just one point from their final 2026 World Cup group stage match against Portugal on Sunday at 00.30am (UK time) in order to top the group. Get the latest Colombia vs Portugal team news here.

Los Cafeteros have made a perfect start to this World Cup with six points from their opening two games. Nestor Lorenzo’s side have been far from dominant against Uzbekistan and DR Congo, despite taking maximum points. That leaves them in pole position going into the final game with Portugal lingering behind on four points.

The Seleccao remain behind their South American counterparts due to an unexpected 1-1 draw with DR Congo in their opening match. Cristiano Ronaldo and his side well and truly came to the party against Uzbekistan however. The Al-Nassr man bagged two in a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Fabio Cannavaro’s men, leaving them needing a win in their final game to top the group.

Colombia vs Portugal team news

Colombia team news

Colombia may be set to name an unchanged team for a second consecutive time at this World Cup. Los Cafeteros have won both of their opening games and as a result, Nestor Lorenzo may well take the mindset of “if it’s not broke. don’t fix it.” As such, expect the same 4-3-3 shape, even against stronger opposition in the shape of Portugal.

Crystal Palace man Daniel Munoz, playing in a slightly more withdrawn role than he’s used to with his club, scored the only goal of the game against DR Congo and will expect to start again. He will likely be joined in defence by both Johan Mojica and Jhon Lucumi, despite both players having been shown a yellow so far in the tournament.

Both James Rodriguez and Luis Suarez were withdrawn before the hour mark in the draw against DR Congo, although replacements Juan Fernando Quintero and Jhon Cordoba didn’t do enough to be considered for a starting spot here.

Portugal team news

Portugal will have been hoping to have Group K wrapped up by now so they could rest players in this game. However, a shock draw to DR Congo means they now need all three points from this game to finish top of the group ahead of Colombia.

One man who won’t want to be rested is of course Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite now being 41 years old, the Al-Nassr striker has played every minute of the Seleccao’s first two games and he repaid Roberto Martinez’s faith in him with a brace in the win over Uzbekistan. This may have been a good opportunity to rest him in the other circumstances, but Ronaldo will want to feature again to try and haul his way back into a golden boot race being dominated by Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland.

Tomas Araujo and Bernardo Silva were dropped from the starting eleven against Uzbekistan and will likely miss out again here. Rafael Leao has played just 26 minutes at the tournament so far but he did get on the scoresheet after coming off the bench in the win over the White Wolves. He’ll hope for some more minutes in this game.
