Vicky Lopez

  • Position: Winger
  • Nation: Spain
  • Age: 18

Spain are a team full of stars, some of whom are very young like Claudia Pina (23) and Salma Paralluelo (18). But we’ve drawn the line for our wonderkids at 20 and under. Perhaps the best of the bunch is Vicky Lopez who has been thriving at Barcelona.

The 18-year-old is the third-youngest player at Women’s Euro 2025 and won’t be guaranteed starts for Spain. But when she is on the pitch, Lopez will thrive. Lopez had a good season with Barcelona, starting 17 of her 25 league appearances in 2024-25. Although Barcelona dominate Spain’s Liga F, it was still on Lopez to keep her spot in the starting XI. And she did just that.

Lopez was directly involved in 11 league goals in 2024-25, scoring 10 and providing one assist. Given she was often substituted before the hour-mark when started, that worked out to 0.72 goal involvements per 90 minutes. On goals alone, it was 0.66 goals per 90 from 0.75 Expected Goals per 90. All without penalties too. Lopez didn’t have as much playing time — or starts — in the Champions League. But she did score or assist in two of her three games in competition in 2024-25.

For Spain, Lopez has two goals in 10 appearances and will be a big threat from the bench.

Iman Beney

  • Position: Winger
  • Nation: Switzerland
  • Age: 18

English fans will be watching Switzerland’s games at Euro 2025 with an eye on Iman Beney. She’s the fourth-youngest player at the tournament and will be playing her football in England next season, having signed for Manchester City.

Beney is a right-winger who likes to have the ball at her feet, looking to keep her side in possession. But she’s also a goal threat. The 18-year-old scored seven goals in 16 league games for Young Boys Frauen, at an average of 0.55 per 90. None of those goals were penalties, but Beney did also score in the shootout to seal the league title for YB Frauen. It was their first league title in 14 years, sealing a return to the Champions League. And Beney was happy to take the responsibility of the fifth penalty for her side.

The 18-year-old has played 10 games for Switzerland so far, though she is yet to score for her national team. She’s been part of the team for a while and was set to feature at the 2023 World Cup as a 16-year-old before an ACL injury ended her dream. Now, Beney does play as a wing-back for Switzerland, starting their past five games there. But that will only make her harder for opposition full-backs to get hold of.

Sydney Schertenleib

  • Position: Striker
  • Nation: Switzerland
  • Age: 18

Our second Swiss wonderkid, and with good reason. Sydney Schertenleib is the youngest player at Euro 2025, born in January 2007. Despite her age, Schertenleib started all six of Switzerland’s Uefa Nations League in 2025. Although the campaign didn’t go well for Switzerland, it was valuable experience for Schertenleib.

The 18-year-old plies her trade with Barcelona and was used as a squad player in 2024-25. She played 15 times for the first team, starting eight and amassing 661 minutes in Liga F. In those games, Schertenleib was directly involved in four goals, scoring one and providing three assists. Those assists came at 0.41 per 90, from 0.18 Expected Assists per 90. In the Championship, Schertenleib scored one goal in 53 minutes, netting in the quarter-finals against Wolfsburg.

Now, Scherteinleib has played as a winger or wide-midfielder for Barcelona, with the odd shift in central midfield. Hence having more assists than goals. But for Switzerland she’s a striker and will play there at the Euros. It’s now on her to get amongst the goals.

Wieke Kaptein

  • Position: Midfielder
  • Nation: Netherlands
  • Age: 19

Chelsea won the domestic treble in 2024-25 under Sonia Bompastor. And Wieke Kaptein had a bigger role to play than many would have expected. The Dutch teenager was tipped to go out on loan last summer but ended up staying with the first-team, for her first full season at the club.

Kaptein played 33 games for Chelsea across all competitions, with only five players making more appearances for the Blues. The 19-year-old started 17 of those appearances, and was a late substitute in many more. Despite sitting sixth for appearances, Kaptein ranked 11th for minutes played. Across the campaign, Kaptein scored four goals and provided four assists, averaging 0.4 direct goal involvements per 90.

The Dutchwoman was a handy utility midfielder too. She was sometimes used at the base of the midfield to cover injuries, but also pushing high up the pitch to press. Kaptein was particularly excellent in helping Chelsea beat Man City in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Turning 20 in August, Kaptein has already played 21 times for the Netherlands and looks set to be a starter at the Euros. She’ll be a big part of their midfield.

Michelle Agyemang

  • Position: Winger
  • Nation: England
  • Age: 19

Michelle Agyemang is an Arsenal player but spent the season out on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion. There, she played her way way into Sarina Wiegman’s thoughts (and squad) for the Women’s Euros. Now, Agyemang was a rotation player for Brighton, and that’s how she’ll be used for England. She won’t be starting any matches, instead looking to make an impact from the bench.

The 19-year-old made 17 appearances for Brighton in the 2024-25 Women’s Super League but started just three times. In her 576 minutes on the pitch, Agyemang was directly involved in four goals, scoring three alongside one assist. Those involvements came at 0.62 per 90, from 0.63 Expected Goal Involvements — at 0.48 xG and 0.15 xA.

Agyemang has made a similar impact off the bench for England too. In her sole appearance so far, Agyemang came off the bench to score for England in their 3-2 defeat to Belgium in April. She hadn’t been on the pitch long but gave the Lionesses a chance of getting back into the match. Wiegman will be hoping she can be a pivotal substitute this summer.

Cora Zicai

  • Position: Winger
  • Nation: Germany
  • Age: 20

Cora Zicai comes into Women’s Euro 2025 after an excellent season. The 20-year-old came through the ranks at Freiburg and has received more regular football over the past two seasons. The 2024-25 was by far her best in the Frauen Bundesliga, earning her a call up to Germany’s senior national team and a move to Wolfsburg.

Zicai, who operates mostly as a winger, was directly involved in 12 goals in 20 Frauen Bundesliga matches in 2024-25. Those involvements are broken down to eight goals and four assists, at 0.45 and 0.23 per 90. Her eight goals came from a total xG of 5.8, with Zicai over-performing by 2.2. A level like that isn’t too high to be unsustainable, and Wolfsburg have a gem for next season.

But what has she done for the national team? Zicai made her senior Germany debut in November and scored in a 5-0 win over Switzerland. She got her second Germany goal in a 4-0 Uefa Nations League victory against Scotland. Zicai has scored two goals in three games for DFB-Frauen and while she isn’t going to start, we’re looking forward to seeing the impact she has off the bench.

Chiara Beccari

  • Position: Winger
  • Nation: Italy
  • Age: 20

Italy have more experienced squad, with 19 of their 23 players aged 25 and over. But Le Azzurre do also have 20-year-old Chiara Beccari getting valuable experience. She’s already played 17 times for Italy, making her senior debut two years ago. Beccari was part of Italy’s squad for the 2023 World Cup and played all three games as an 18-year-old, starting across the front line.

In her three games, Beccari had four shots which may not sound like much, but only three Italian players managed more. She didn’t hit the target with any efforts, squandering her 0.57 xG. Beccari was creative too, creating four chances with 0.24 xA, though it didn’t result in any assists.

Beccari currently plays for Juventus and comes into the Women’s Euros having been directly involved in seven goals in 20 games — scoring three and providing four assists. The 20-year-old averaged 0.28 goals per 90 minutes, and provided 0.37 assists.

Signe Gaupset

  • Position: Midfielder
  • Nation: Norway
  • Age: 20

When you’re being compared to the likes of Martin Odegaard, Ada Hegerberg and Caroline Graham Hansen, you know you’re doing something right. Signe Gaupset earned the comparisons for the way she burst onto the scene at such a young age. If she matches any of the trio in terms of careers, Norway have yet another diamond on their hands.

In terms of positions, Gaupset is more like Odegaard, an attacking midfielder. But she’s an excellent goalscorer as well as creator. Currently plying her trade with Brann in her native Norway, Gaupset has been directly involved in 16 goals in 14 games in the 2025 Toppserien. She’s provided six assists but also scored 10 goals. Gaupset has also both scored and assisted in five separate league games this season, including in each of her last two ahead of Euro 2025.

Now, Norway have a lot of stars. But they’ve also struggled to get the best out of those stars. Think the Golden Generation of Belgium’s men’s team. So Gaupset has every opportunity to make her mark and set Norway up for the future.
