The latest round of Premier League matches this weekend offer plenty of opportunities for clubs to chase milestones, break records, pile up wanted and unwanted statistics, and shift the momentum in their respective seasons.
Gameweek 28 gets underway in the Midlands on Friday night, while the match of the weekend arguably comes in the capital, where Arsenal take on Chelsea in what proves to be a pivotal clash in the title race.

Stats you might see
Wolves’ top-half drought
- If Wolves beat Aston Villa, it will be their first victory over a club in the top-half of the Premier League table in 18 games dating back a year.
It seems only a matter of time until Wolves will be relegated, but their fans will hope they will at least make things slightly interesting by putting up a fight in Friday’s Midlands derby.
Wolves can draw on a decent record at home to Aston Villa, who they’ve beaten in four of the last six Premier League meetings at Molineux. Villa’s recent form has been mixed of late too, with Unai Emery’s side failing to win on six occasions in their last nine games.
If Wolves can conjure up a rare morale-booster of a win, it will be the first time that they’ve beaten a team in the top-half of the table in 18 games dating back a whole year.
Cherries on a roll
- If Bournemouth avoid defeat at home to Sunderland they will have strung together the second best current unbeaten Premier League run (8 games) behind Manchester United (10).
Bournemouth’s 11-game winless streak between November and January now feels like a distant memory, having followed it with a seven-game unbeaten run that includes a memorable 3-2 victory over Liverpool.
The Cherries will be confident of extending that form at home against a stuttering Sunderland side, who have lost five of their last seven league games, including the last three in a row. The Black Cats haven’t lost four successive Premier League games since 2015.
Avoiding defeat this weekend would see Bournemouth extend their unbeaten streak to eight games, which would be the second-longest current run in the Premier League right now, behind Manchester United’s 10.
From doom to hope at Burnley
- A win over Brentford would see Burnley pick up more points (7) from their last three matches, than they earned across the previous 16 games (5 points).
Burnley, who were seemingly doomed, have kept their faint survival hopes alive with a stunning 3-2 comeback win away to Crystal Palace followed by a last-gasp draw at Chelsea.
The Clarets will aim to build on that momentum with a home win against Brentford, a side they have beaten seven times in their last 12 league meetings at Turf Moor. A victory would see Burnley accumulate seven points from their last three games, more than the five points they managed in the previous 16 matches.
Reds chase 3 wins to nil
- Liverpool could win three league games to nil for the first time since Arne Slot’s opening three games as manager.
Liverpool left it late in a 97th-minute win away to Nottingham Forest, keeping them within three points of the top-4. The Reds, who have won their last two games to nil, now go hunting for a third consecutive win and clean sheet for the first time since Arne Slot’s opening three games at the helm (August-September 2024). Meanwhile, they could win three straight top-flight games by a 1-0 scoreline for the first time since 2013-14.
As for West Ham, they head to Anfield looking to record only their second league win away to Liverpool in a whopping 53 games. It’s long been a treacherous trip for the Hammers, who have lost 39 times in their last 51 visits.
Moyes’ away day magic
- Victory at Newcastle would take Everton to 41 away points under David Moyes – more than any side bar Arsenal (45) since 25th January 2025.
Everton’s impressive away form has flown under the radar since David Moyes returned just over a year ago. Under the Scot, the Toffees have recorded 11 wins, five draws, and lost only five times in 22 league trips.
A win at Newcastle on Saturday would take Everton to 41 away points – more than any club except Arsenal (45) – since Moyes’ first game back in January 2025.
Leeds’ evening fortress
- Leeds will go 26 league games unbeaten at Elland Road in matches that have kicked off at 5pm or later if they avoid defeat against Man City.
Manchester City have the chance to gobble up the deficit to just two points between themselves and Arsenal – for 24 hours at least – if they can secure victory at Leeds on Saturday evening. Pep Guardiola’s side have won their last two trips to Elland Road, but City have not managed three consecutive away league wins there since their first three visits between 1924 and 1928.
Nico O’Reilly has been in fine form for City, scoring in each of his last two appearances, and another goal this weekend would see him become the first City player aged under 21 to find the net in three straight league matches since Phil Foden in June/July 2020.
Leeds, however, are simply formidable at home under the lights, having gone unbeaten in a whopping 25 league and play-off games at Elland Road, which have kicked off after 5pm (W20 D5).

Welbeck targets double figures
- If Danny Welbeck scores, he will equal his personal best of 10 Premier League goals in a single season. In doing so, he would also become just the eighth player aged 33 or older to score 10+ goals in consecutive Premier League campaigns.
Danny Welbeck propelled his tally to nine league goals for the season as Brighton returned to winning ways with an impressive 2-0 triumph at Brentford last weekend.
Only seven players have scored more Premier League goals than the Seagulls forward this term, and he heads into Sunday’s home clash with Nottingham Forest on the brink of matching – or even surpassing – his career-best return of 10 in a single campaign, which he achieved last season.
Just seven players aged 33 or over have recorded 10 or more goals in consecutive Premier League seasons, most recently Jamie Vardy in 2020-21 and 2021-22.
Double-digit misery looms for Spurs
- Tottenham could go 10 games without a win for only the second time in the Premier League era.
Tottenham travel to Craven Cottage desperately searching for a spark after a dire start to 2026. Spurs are the only Premier League club yet to pick up a win this year, having failed to win any of their nine league matches (D4 L5).
A failure to win again on Sunday will see Tottenham’s winless run stretch to 10 games for only the second time in the Premier League era, after a 10 game barren patch between January and March 1994 under Osvaldo Ardiles.
Another defeat would leave new boss Igor Tudor in unwanted company as only the second Tottenham manager – after Martin Jol in November 2004 – to lose his first two Premier League games in charge. Meanwhile, no manager in Premier League history has conceded four or more goals in each of their opening two matches.
Fulham, for their part, will be eager to compound Spurs’ struggles as they chase only their second-ever league double over their London rivals, and first since the 2003-04 campaign.
Carrick chasing home history
- Michael Carrick can become the first Manchester United manager since Frank O’Farrell in 1971 to win his first five league home games.
No club have collected more Premier League points in 2026 than Manchester United (18), who are unbeaten in eight matches this year. Six of those games have come under interim manager Michael Carrick, who has accrued an impressive 16 points from a possible 18.
Carrick has won each of his four matches at Old Trafford – including one during his brief caretaker spell in 2021 – and could now become the first United manager since Frank O’Farrell in 1971 to win his first five league home games in charge.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, have responded to a nine-game winless run by taking victories in two of their last three outings. They now have the opportunity to become the first London club in the Premier League era to win three successive away league games at Old Trafford – and only the second London side ever to do so, after Chelsea between 1967–68 and 1969–70.
Gunning for famous 4
- Arsenal could win four straight Premier League games at home to Chelsea for the first time in the Premier League era.
The match of the weekend is likely to come at the Emirates, where leaders Arsenal face fellow Londoners Chelsea. The Gunners can draw on an impressive recent record in this fixture, having gone 10 games unbeaten against the Blues in all competitions – winning seven – which is their longest undefeated run against the Blues since they went 17 without defeat between 1999 and 2024
In fact, Arsenal, who are unbeaten in eight league games in this fixture, have the chance to win four straight top-flight home games against Chelsea for the first time in the Premier League era.
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior is bidding to become the first English manager to win his first three away Premier League games since Tim Sherwood at Tottenham in 2013-14.
