PSG 4-0 Real Madrid: Player ratings as Luis Enrique’s side demolish Los Blancos

PSG celebrate against Real Madrid

Paris Saint-Germain stunned Real Madrid with a ruthless 4-0 thrashing in their Club World Cup semi-final clash on Wednesday night to set up a showdown with Chelsea.

PSG were the better side from the first minute and could have been in front in the opening moments. But Ousmane Dembele’s shot was somehow saved by Thibaut Courtois from just yards out.

Fabian Ruiz put the French side ahead after just five minutes with a simple tap-in following a calamitous mistake from Raul Asencio. And almost moments later, Dembele got his goal, capitalising on another awful error from Antonio Rudiger before calmly slotting home to leave PSG in dreamland.

Ruiz got his second by rounding off a breathless PSG attack as he thumped home from Achraf Hakimi’s square ball to make it three and leave Madrid shell-shocked. Madrid had no answers in the second half and PSG were able to sit on their lead. Luis Enrique’s side even had time to add a fourth through Goncalo Ramos late on.

Here is how the two teams rated during the star-studded contest at the MetLife Stadium.

PSG player ratings

Gianluigi Donnarumma – 6 – Wasn’t required much in the first half but popped up with a couple of decent stops — including from Mbappe — after the break.

Achraf Hakimi – 8 – Gave Real Madrid nightmares with his menacing runs, pressing high and bombing down the right as he registered an impressive assist to set up Ruiz’s second.

Marquinhos – 7 – Imperious display at the back. Didn’t give Mbappe or Vinicius Jr a moment’s peace and kept PSG’s backline solid amid the threat of counter attacks.

Beraldo – 7 – Calm and assured with some nice touches at the back to keep PSG’s momentum flowing from defence. Held his own against a dangerous attack.

Nuno Mendes – 8 – Superb block to stop dangerous Vinicius Jr attack in first half and didn’t put a foot wrong all game. Strong in the tackle and quickly shut down any sniff of Madrid attacks coming his way.

Joao Neves – 8 – Unsettled Madrid with his aggression and even frustrated ex-team-mate Mbappe by thwarting him in the box. Tidy passing and played some great one-twos.

Vitinha – 8 – Looked like a kid in the playground the way he glided around the pitch effortlessly. Has to be one of the top central midfielders in the world right now.

Fabian Ruiz – 9 – What a first half this man had. An early shot saved, then two calm finishes to finish off some superb PSG attacks. The coolest man on the pitch.

Desire Doue – 7 – His rapid runs on the wing caused Real Madrid nightmares and was a huge factor in Xabi Alonso’s side collapsing early on.

Ousmane Dembele – 8 – What a player he is becoming. Missed a huge early chance but made up for it by calmly slotting in the second after pouncing on Rudiger’s woeful error.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – 6 – One of PSG’s more quiet players on the whole but missed a chance to make it four before the interval. Still had lots of dangerous moments and always looked a threat.

Substitutes

Bradley Barcola (for Kvaratskhelia 59) – 6 – His task was to continue PSG’s momentum and keep running at Madrid on the counter and he did that with superb footwork to set up Ramos for the team’s fourth goal.

Goncalo Ramos (for Dembele 59) – 6 – Made sure he got in on the act as he rifled home the team’s fourth from close range.

Warren Zaire-Emery (for Ruiz 66) – 6 – Kept the tempo going in midfield and the commanding lead allowed him to easily settle into the game.

Senny Mayulu (for Doue 66) – 5 – Great experience for the youngster getting a runout against the Spanish giants.

Lee Kang-In (for Mendes 79) – 5 – Added to PSG’s threat going forward to ensure they finished the game on a high.

Real Madrid player ratings

Thibaut Courtois – 6 – Two superb early saves from Ruiz and Dembele before the goals started flying in. Made another top stop before half-time.

Federico Valverde – 5 – Did not cover himself in glory as he failed to catch Ruiz in time for PSG’s third goal and looked uncomfortable in defence

Raul Asencio – 4- Caught napping for PSG’s opener as he allowed Dembele to nip in and take the ball from yards out. He never settled and he was subbed off in the second half.

Antonio Rudiger – 3 – Like his defensive partner, he had an absolute shocker to miskick the ball as Dembele pounced on his mistake before scoring. Uncharacteristically poor display.

Fran Garcia – 4 – Doue and Hakimi made mincemeat out of him. He could not cope with the duo’s overlapping attacks and didn’t make a good case to be Alonso’s No 1 left-back.

Arda Guler – 4 – Just didn’t happen for the Turkish star. He was anonymous and struggled to get going as PSG kept most of the ball.

Aurelien Tchouameni – 5 – One of Madrid’s better players in the game but that’s not saying much. Did his best to unsettle PSG when he could. Booked in the first half.

Jude Bellingham – 4 – Barely got a moment on the ball, such was PSG’s dominance. Had a bit more licence to get forward in the second half but it wasn’t his day.

Gonzalo Garcia – 5 – Has been lethal in this tournament but was barely given an opportunity in this game as Madrid were stifled.

Vinicius Jr – 5 – Had a few flashes of quality and some half chances but it never came together for the Brazilian forward.

Kylian Mbappe – 4 – Such a frustrating night for the Frenchman against his old employers. He was pocketed by Marquinhos and Beraldo and this defeat will sting in particular for him — having also watched them win the Champions League without him.

Substitutes

Luka Modric (for Bellingham 64) – 6 – Gave everything in what was his final appearance in a Real Madrid shirt after an incredible 15 years in the Spanish capital.

Eder Militao (for Asencio 64) – 6 – Certaintly did a better job that his team-mate Asencio after coming on. He can at least say Madrid didn’t concede while he was on the pitch.

Brahim Diaz (for Vincius Jr 65) – 5 – Gave an enthusiastic display after coming on as he looked to push forwards on the ball and get involved in attacks late on.

Dani Carvajal (for Gonzalo Garcia 70) – 5 – This was the Spaniard’s first appearance since October and it was always just about match fitness for the right-back.

Lucas Vazquez (for Guler 83) – 5 – Too late for him to affect the game but instead attempted to keep the team solid.
