The fastest Premier League players in every position 2024-25
We’re 11 games into the 2024-25 Premier League campaign and that has been enough time for players to really stretch their legs.
Pace isn’t just an attribute that’s important in EA Sports FC. It is applicable to real-life football too, and it can be crucial in certain situations.
Obviously some positions require more speed than others. But it can be just as vital for a centre-back to be fast as it is for an attacker. There are probably a few names already coming to mind.
But if you’re wondering who would be top of the speed table, wonder no more. We’ve got the fastest players in each position from the 2024-25 Premier League so far based on top speed reached, using exclusive data requested from Opta.
Fastest Premier League goalkeeper: Mark Travers
- Club: Bournemouth
- Appearances: 3
- Top speed: 31.14km/h
It’s obviously tough for a goalkeeper to get a big top speed. Last season, Robert Sanchez was the fastest goalkeeper, with his top speed clocked when running back after going up for a late corner. This season, Mark Travers is currently leading the way for goalkeepers, though his top speed is a lot lower at 31.14km/h.
Travers has only played three games for Bournemouth in the league this season, dropping to No.2 behind Kepa Arrizabalaga. But that has been enough time to become the only goalkeeper to clock a top speed of over 30km/h this season. Jordan Pickford and Aaron Ramsdale complete the top three, with top speeds of 29.64km/h and 29.49km/h respectively.
2. Jordan Pickford (29.64km/h)
3. Aaron Ramsdale (29.49km/h)
4. Dean Henderson (28.8km/h)
5. Alisson (28.23km/h)
Fastest Premier League defender: Micky van de Ven
- Club: Tottenham
- Appearances: 8
- Top speed: 37.12km/h
This will come as no surprise. Micky van de Ven was the fastest player in the Premier League season, and the fastest since top speed data started being collected in 2020-21. The Dutch defender usually relies on his pace for defensive actions, covering behind Tottenham Hotspur‘s backline when teams counter-attack. You cannot play a high line without having someone like Van de Ven.
But he’s also used that pace to get up the pitch this season. We all remember that run through the heart of Everton’s defence to set up Son Heung-min in Tottenham’s 4-0 win over the Toffees. Van de Ven has suffered with slight injury issues, but that hasn’t hurt his speed.
In terms of defenders, there’s not really any competition. Antonee Robinson is the second-fastest with a top speed of 35.63km/h this season, while Wolves‘ Yerson Mosquera has achieved 35.32km/h.
2. Antonee Robinson (35.63km/h)
3. Yerson Mosquera (35.32km/h)
4. Destiny Udogie (35.31km/h)
5. Tino Livramento (35.26km/h)
Fastest Premier League midfielder: Matheus Nunes
- Club: Man City
- Appearances: 8
- Top speed: 36.72km/h
Matheus Nunes hasn’t had too much playing time this season, having to deal with Manchester City‘s monster squad. But he found some luck on the left flank ahead of the November international break. It’s there that Nunes has really been able to stretch his legs as another option for the Man City attack.
The Portuguese midfielder has provided two assists from the left flank in the Premier League this season, including one against Southampton in his first start. Given the freedom of the flank, it’s no surprise that Nunes has been able to clock up such a fast top speed, with his powerful runs.
Nunes’ top speed puts him above a player known for his quickness, with Chelsea‘s Mykhailo Mudryk clocking a top speed of 35.79km/h. Aston Villa‘s Amadou Onana completes the top three with a speed of 35.54km/h.
2. Mykhailo Mudryk (35.79km/h)
3. Amadou Onana (35.54km/h)
4. Mohammed Kudus (35.31km/h)
5. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (35.05km/h)
Fastest Premier League forward: Carlos Forbs
- Club: Wolves
- Appearances: 5
- Top speed: 36.57km/h
Carlos Forbs has started one game for Wolves in the Premier League this season, operating on the right flank in their 5-3 defeat to Brentford. He was a late addition to the Wolves squad, joining on loan from Ajax towards the end of the summer transfer window.
When he does get on the pitch, Forbs tries his best to run at opponents and take them on. The Portuguese winger has averaged 3.56 attempted take-ons per 90 minutes, completing 2.54. The latter places him inside the top 10 among Premier League players, though obviously he has a smaller sample size.
Forbs is one of just three players with a top speed of 36km/h and above. His closest forward challenge is Anthony Elanga, whose top speed is just short at 35.9km/h. Erling Haaland is a little bit further behind with a top speed of 35.74km/h.
2. Anthony Elanga (35.9km/h)
3. Erling Haaland (35.74km/h)
4. Timo Werner (35.69km/h)
5. Gabriel Martinelli (35.57km/h)
