The Bundesliga continues to move along with champions Bayern Munich on course to keep their grip on top spot.
Hansi Flick’s men have recovered from a minor wobble to win five of their last six games, establishing a five-point lead at the top of the table.
That is largely thanks to nearest contenders RB Leipzig enduring a run of just one win from four games, although they have since managed three wins on the bounce over Leverkusen, Schalke and Augsburg.
At the other end of the table, a hat-trick from American youngster Matthew Hoppe inspired Schalke to a 4-0 win over Hoffenheim in January, thus avoiding equalling a Bundesliga-record 31 games without a victory. However, they’ve lost four of their six matches since, drawing the two, and remain rooted to the bottom.
Their cause hasn’t been helped by Mainz’s shock 3-2 wins over RB Leipzig and Union Berlin recently, and it’s looking increasingly likely this giant of German football will be relegated at the end of the season.
There are more twists and turns to come in the 2020/21 German top-flight, and plenty of eye-catching fixtures to look out for.
