Manchester City’s defence of their Premier League title didn’t get off to the best start on opening weekend as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in North London, but it didn’t take long for the Citizens to look back to their brilliant best just a week later.
Norwich City were the season’s first visitors to the Etihad Stadium and they offered little resistance to Pep Guardiola’s free-flowing side last week. Goals from the likes of Jack Grealish and Raheem Sterling helped the Citizens ease to a 5-0 win in front of their home support.
Arsenal’s start to the season has been nothing short of miserable with two defeats to fellow London outfits in the opening two weeks. After losing 2-0 at Brentford in the Bees’ first ever Premier League fixture, the Gunners slipped to another 0-2 loss at home to Chelsea last Sunday afternoon.
With pressure rising on Mikel Arteta, the Spanish head coach will no doubt have been delighted with a very comfortable 0-6 win over West Brom in the EFL Cup in midweek, but another defeat here and questions will start to be asked again about his future at the Emirates Stadium.
Manchester City vs Arsenal: Match Stats
Arsenal have a dreadful record against Manchester City, losing their last eight Premier League meetings with the Citizens. The Gunners have fallen behind before half-time in their opening two Premier League games, so we expect City to take the lead early and hold it comfortably until full-time here.
Riyad Mahrez scored the fifth goal in City’s 5-0 win over Norwich last weekend and with confidence high, that will only lead to him taking yet more shots on Saturday. The Algerian took 58 shots last term and had another four shots at goal already this term in just 94 minutes of play.
