Best Bets & Predictions

Our PredictionOdds & BookmakerConfidenceWhy I’m Backing It
Draw13/5 @ Bet365
(27.8%)
⭐⭐⭐⭐Seven draws in the last 18 head-to-heads (39%). Both teams average under 1.5 goals per game. Finishing is a problem for both — and with little at stake, a cagey stalemate is on the cards. I rate the draw nearer 32% than the 28% implied by 13/5.
Adam Wharton to Assist Anytime14/5 @ BetVictor
(26.3%)
⭐⭐⭐Wharton has 5 assists in 27 games (0.19 per game, or roughly one every 5.4 matches). Palace win 4.3 corners per game and Newcastle have conceded four penalties this season. Wharton’s set-piece delivery is Palace’s best route to a goal. Subject to team news.

How both teams go into Crystal Palace vs Newcastle

Crystal Palace are in control of their European tie after a 3 0 win over Fiorentina, with Jean Philippe Mateta, Tyrick Mitchell and Ismaila Sarr on the scoresheet. But Oliver Glasner’s side now turn attention back to the Premier League, where inconsistency has left them sitting in 14th.

They remain closer to the top six than the bottom three, but form has been patchy with wins and losses trading places before a draw with Leeds. At Selhurst Park, though, Palace have been strong, going five games unbeaten at home in all competitions and keeping a clean sheet in each of those matches.

Crystal Palace have not been in strong league form at Selhurst Park, winning just one of their last 10 Premier League home matches. However, they now face a Newcastle side arriving in poor domestic shape after six defeats in their last nine league games.

Newcastle’s season has started to wobble after heavy setbacks, including a 7 2 loss to Barcelona and a 2 1 defeat to Sunderland. While their away form has improved recently with four wins in six, they have still struggled defensively on the road and rarely keep clean sheets. They also have a poor record at Selhurst Park, with just one win there in their last 10 visits.

Crystal Palace team news

Crystal Palace could see one change in attack, with Jorgen Strand Larsen available again after a Conference League suspension. However, Evann Guessand picked up a knock in midweek and will need to be assessed before kickoff. Eddie Nketiah remains out for the season and Cheick Doucoure is still not ready to return despite playing at Under 21 level recently.

Newcastle team news

Newcastle are still dealing with several injuries at the back, with Sven Botman ruled out after facial surgery and not expected back until later in the month. Emil Krafth, Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar are also set to miss out, leaving Eddie Howe short on defensive and midfield options.

Recent Meetings

These two have played out some proper grinders lately — three of the last six meetings have ended 0-0, but Newcastle won the last two at home (2-0 and 5-0). Palace haven’t won at St James’ since 2019, and goals are rare when they meet.

Can Newcastle and Palace break the deadlock? Final Thoughts

Everything about this fixture screams tight, low-margin football. Both sides are underperforming their xG, defences are leaky but not disastrous, and head-to-head history is full of draws and blanks. I’m backing the draw at 13/5 with Bet365 — the numbers and the eye test are in agreement. If you want a player angle, Wharton to assist at 14/5 with BetVictor is my shout. Don’t expect fireworks, but there’s value if you know where to look.
