Spain will hope to live up to their billing as tournament favourites when they begin their 2026 World Cup campaign in Group H.
La Roja are the huge favourites to win their group but will have to be at their best to stave off the challenge of South American giants Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and underdogs, Cape Verde.

Spain Group H odds
Belgium are the overwhelming favourites to emerge from Group H as winners, with Luis de la Fuente’s side currently the number one ranked team in the world. They come up against a tough challenge in Uruguay, currently 17th in the FIFA World Rankings, but things should be a little easier against Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde.
Since winning the competition in 2010, there has been a disappointing run for Spain, with a group stage exit in 2014 being followed by consecutive round of 16 exits in 2018 and 2022. This tournament could represent a return to form for Spain and they certainly have the talent within their squad to make that a reality.
Spain’s midfield, in particular, looks especially strong with Pedri, Gavi and Rodri all elite players in key areas. They are backed up by the likes of Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino, whilst Fabian Ruiz is another fantastic option. Defensively, Spain might not have the elite options of 10 years ago but they still possess good quality in Pau Cubarsí and Robin Le Normand, while Unai Simón and David Raya look set to battle it out to be named number one.
Spain don’t possess a striker in the mould of Fernando Torres or David Villa anymore but their attacking options are varied and, crucially, all in their prime. Ferran Torres, Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal are all at the top of their games in La Liga, while Lamine Yamal is probably the most exciting teenager in world football and could be a difference maker for Spain this summer.

Uruguay Group H odds
Uruguay qualified for the World Cup without too many problems, finishing fourth in the CONMEBOL qualifying standings. They come into Group H as second favourites to win with their third, and final, group match against Spain looking to be pivotal to their success.
Uruguay have won the World Cup twice, although not since 1950, and have become accustomed to reaching the knockout stages in recent years, something that looks even more likely this time around with eight of the 12 third placed teams making it through to the round of 32.
Saudi Arabia Group H odds
Saudi Arabia have become a regular name when it comes to qualifying for the World Cup in recent years, making six of the last eight tournaments. They’ve only made it out of the group stage once though, in 1994, only winning four games at the finals in 19 attempts.
Saudi Arabia made hard work of their qualification to the 2026 World Cup, finishing third in the third round group stage, behind Japan and Australia. This meant they had to enter the fourth round, where they topped Group B, ahead of Iraq on goal difference.
Cape Verde Group H odds
One of the biggest surprises when it came to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup was Cape Verde, a nation made up of just 525,000 people. They showed their worth in CAF qualification Group D, though, finishing top of the group and losing just once, to Cameroon. They took 23 points from a possible 30 and conceded less than a goal a game on their way to qualification.
There aren’t many familiar names in the Cape Verde squad, with Ricardo Santos being the only member of the squad who plays in football in England. They are relative unknowns, and rank outsiders in Group H but will be hoping to continue their excellent qualification form in the tournament proper.
