Ecuador go into their second consecutive World Cup as a dark horse pick for many.
La Tri enjoyed a sensational qualifying campaign, finishing second only to Argentina in the Conmebol section, finishing above the likes of Brazil, Uruguay and Colombia with 29 points and just two defeats from 18 matches.

With odds of 100/1, Ecuador certainly aren’t among the World Cup favourites. However, they do join the likes of Morocco, Japan, Switzerland and Denmark in the middle of the pack, among the sides who are expected to navigate the group stage and then pose a serious threat to the favourites in the early knockout rounds.
This is Ecuador’s fifth World Cup campaign and second in a row. They went out in the group stage in Qatar, but only needed one more goal to make it through, while their four-point haul would likely have seen them qualify as one of the best third-place teams — a format that is now in play at this tournament.

Ecuador have been drawn into a tough Group E at this summer’s tournament.
La Tri will fancy themselves to comfortably beat debutants Curacao. However, four-time winners Germany and reigning Afcon champions the Ivory Coast will pose entirely different threats.
Despite being at a low ebb in recent years, Germany can never be written off at major tournaments and will be expected to go deep, while the Ivory Coast are one of Africa’s strongest nations.
Ecuador will have their work cut out, but at are generally seen as second-favourites in the group by bookmakers.
