Algeria’s fifth appearance at the World Cup didn’t get off to the best of starts after they lost 3-0 to holders Argentina in their opening game.
Algeria have been knocked out of the group stage in three of their four previous appearances, but will need to respond swiftly against debutants Jordan if they are going to reach the knockout stages, as they did in 2014.

Algeria odds to win the World Cup
Few fancy Algeria to win the World Cup, with odds of lengthened to 500/1 with some bookmakers after they lost 3-0 to Argentina in their first Group J game.
As mentioned, Algeria haven’t had much luck at the World Cup. Although they won two of their games in their first appearance in 1982, Algeria did not make it out of the group. They finished behind West Germany and Austria on goal difference, in very controversial fashion. Algeria were the victims of the Disgrace of Gijon, in which West Germany and Austria played out a 1-0 win for the former, knowing it would send both of them through. The Fennecs have only won one of their 11 World Cup games since.
Algeria odds to win Group J
Algeria are in an interesting group at the World Cup, which includes defending champions Argentina. So it’ll be a huge ask for them to win Group J, where they are a distant third-favourites.

Riyad Mahrez is the only Algerian player with odds to win the Golden Boot at the 2026 World Cup. But he’s as long as 150/1, so no one really expects it.
