League Two 26/27 Preview

The 2025/26 League Two season ended with Bromley completing a remarkable rise by winning the title and securing promotion to League One for the first time in their history. MK Dons and Cambridge United joined them in the automatic places after strong, consistent campaigns, while Notts County eventually claimed the final promotion spot through the play-offs. At the bottom, Harrogate Town and Barrow were relegated out of the Football League after difficult seasons that left both struggling to keep pace with the division.

The arrival of York City and Rochdale adds significant intrigue to the 2026/27 campaign after both clubs broke the 100-point barrier in the National League last season. Momentum alone makes them dangerous, and both should be competitive immediately despite the step up. The relegated quartet of Exeter City, Port Vale, Rotherham United, and Northampton Town also give the division unusual strength near the top end, with all four likely expecting to challenge for promotion rather than simply stabilise.

Rotherham and Port Vale may begin among the favourites because of their resources and recent experience higher up the pyramid, while Exeter should also remain competitive if they recover quickly from relegation. Northampton, despite struggling badly last year, still possess enough infrastructure and support to be dangerous at this level. Elsewhere, clubs such as Chesterfield, Gillingham and Swindon Town could all enter the play-off conversation if they find consistency over the course of the season.

At the bottom, survival may prove difficult for sides that started poorly last year, particularly as the overall standard of the division appears to be improving. With several ambitious clubs targeting promotion and stronger squads spread throughout the division, League Two already looks set to be one of the most competitive leagues in the EFL during 2026/27.

When do you release your League Two Predictions?

As with all our tips, we strive to make our predictions available to you at least 48 hours before kick-off time. However, due to fixture congestion, especially with 12 games each gameweek, this is not always possible – but you will find tips here ahead of the games in the lead-up to kick-off.

We are blessed with an abundance of EFL expertise here at Squawka Bet so don’t be fooled into thinking we only know our stuff when it comes to the Premier League and Europe’s major leagues. We pride ourselves on our depth of knowledge of English football too, right down to League Two and even beyond that, plus our extensive access to the data helps us to select the best bets for each round of fixtures.

Full Time Results

This remains the most popular way to bet on any football match. All you’re doing with a Full Time Result bet is betting on which team will win the game – or whether it will end in a draw. This is sometimes known as a ‘Match Outcome’ bet or is referred to as the ‘Win-Draw-Win’ market, but the bet you’re placing remains the same.

Of course, you can now combine your result bet with a different bet for every longer odds and sometimes better value. For example you can back a team to win and over 2.5 goals being scored in the match. You can also back the correct scoreline for some much longer odds.

Both Teams to Score

Much like Full Time Result bets, Both Team to Score bets have become very popular with multiple backers in recent years. The reason for this is that the bet can ride all the way until full-time – a couple of last minute goals are never out of reach.

For the best League Two BTTS bets, you need to check which teams are the highest-scoring and the highest-conceding in the division.

Sky Bet are not the sponsors of the Football League without good reason and they offer some of the best odds within these kind of markets on League Two.

BTTS & Win

Of course, much like with the Match Result and Over 2.5 goals bets, you can also combine a both teams to score bet with a full-time result bet, which can offer excellent value for the punter if both teams involved in a match are high-scorers – but one is in better form or looks stronger on paper than the other. Odds on these bets tend to be quite long, so you may prefer to back them as singles or multiples with fewer selections.

BTTS in Both Halves

One to remember if both teams are really strong going forward but particularly leaky at the back. Both teams to score in both halves is pretty self-explanatory – you’re betting on both teams to find the net either side of the half-time whistle. This isn’t a bet you will find coming in on a regular basis, so save it for those games when you’re anticipating a real goal-glut.

Over 2.5 Goals

Unders and Overs lines are worth knowing about for a whole raft of markets, but the one that’s most often-used is the Under or Over 2.5 goals line. Again, it’s worth noting which high-scoring teams are facing off if you’re looking for an overs bet, whereas strong defensive sides are the ones worth backing on your Unders bets. Odds on these bets are usually relatively low, so it could be worth combining several for a League Two accumulator.

Anytime Goalscorer

An easier bet to research, anytime goalscorer allows you to back a player to get themselves on the scoresheet at any point of the match. Of course, the top scorers are always worth checking in this league and you can find the players with the most goals in League Two so far this season above.

Bookings

It’s not necessarily true that the lower leagues are dirtier or more combative than the league’s above, although the stats do suggest that some teams are dirtier than others. You can back certain players to be carded, or you can back one team to pick up more booking points than their opponents, or even the total amount of cards shown in the game.

Corners Taken

Corner bets have become a key component of match betting in recent years too, with plenty of markets available in terms of which team will win the most corners and how many corners will be taken in the game.

Best Bookmakers for League Two

There really are pros and cons to every single bookmaker when it comes to placing your bets. Given that the English fourth tier isn’t the most popular league in the world, it may be worth checking what League Two markets are available with the bookmaker of choice but there are plenty of other things to consider too, such as their customer service, In Play odds and of course the value available with their prices.

You’ll find League Two odds and priceboosts with any bookmaker worth their salt these days, but we’ve settled on the following five as our particular favourites for betting on these games:

Which other competitions do you offer tips for?

We aren’t just focused on English football of course. Although we do offer tips for every one of England’s four fully professional leagues, we also offer odds on the Champions League and Europa League as well as all major European leagues.

League Two Offers & Free Bets

Looking for some League Two betting offers? Although not many bookmakers will offer new customers the chance to get the kind of enhanced odds you’d find on the Premier League every weekend, you will often find plenty of other ways to get extra value on your bets, including matchday price boosts and accumulator enhancements.

If it’s some League Two free bets you’re after, then it’s worth scouring the betting markets for the best available new customer offers around as many bookmakers will be keen to offer new punters the chance to get their betting underway with some free bets – but be sure to check the T&C’s before you start building that League Two accumulator!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – League Two Tips

When are your League Two tips released?

Our League Two tips are released approximately 48 hours before kickoff. This ensures our experts can analyse the latest team news, injury reports, and betting market movements for the most accurate predictions

How many teams are promoted from League Two

Four teams are promoted from League Two to League One each season. The top three teams gain automatic promotion, while the teams finishing fourth to seventh compete in the play offs for the final promotion spot.

What is the biggest factor in League Two predictions?

The biggest factor is consistency. Teams that can maintain a high Passes Per Defensive Action PPDA and a strong Expected Goals xG differential over the long season are the most reliable for League Two predictions.

Why is the BTTS market so popular for League Two tips?

The high frequency of open, end to end football and the relative parity of the teams means both sides often find the net, making the Both Teams To Score BTTS market a consistent source of value.
