Vancouver Canucks 2026-27 season outlook
Written 24 September 2026. Vancouver start 2026-27 at the bottom of a rebuild. The Canucks finished last in the NHL with 58 points and a goal difference of minus 100, and the spring cleared out the hockey department. Patrik Allvin was fired as general manager in April. In May, Daniel and Henrik Sedin became co-presidents of hockey operations and Ryan Johnson took over as general manager.
Manny Malhotra, who coached Abbotsford to the 2025 Calder Cup, replaced Adam Foote behind the bench in June. The draft then brought his son. Caleb Malhotra went third overall, and Adam Novotny followed at 24th with the pick that came from Minnesota in the Quinn Hughes trade.
The roster has turned over around Elias Pettersson, who led the team with 51 points last season. Marco Rossi, Liam Öhgren and Zeev Buium arrived in that Hughes deal, Brendan Gallagher came from Montréal, and Jamie Oleksiak and Luke Schenn were signed for the blue line. Marcus Pettersson, Nils Höglander, Teddy Blueger and Evander Kane are gone.
The net was the other failure. Kevin Lankinen started 47 games and saved .875. Thatcher Demko managed only 20, and he is on injured reserve with a hip problem, expected back around opening night.
The market has written the season off. On Bet99’s July board the Canucks were +100000 to win the Stanley Cup, level with Calgary as the longest price in the league. There is no captain yet either, and Malhotra has said the club is in no rush to name one.

Vancouver Canucks odds and how the market sees them
The Canucks markets with the most depth are the season-long futures: the Stanley Cup, the Western Conference, the Pacific Division, a regular-season points total and a yes-or-no price on making the playoffs. On Bet99’s board on 30 July 2026 the Canucks were +100000 to win the Stanley Cup, the joint-longest price on the board, level with Calgary. Our Stanley Cup odds page carries the current prices for all 32 teams.
Three things move a Canucks price during the season. The starting goalie matters most, and the injury section above tracks him. The schedule is next: the Canucks play 11 back-to-backs, and second nights are where tired legs and backup goalies show up in the lines. Then there is form, which our power rankings measure each week, and the race itself in the playoff picture. Picks for the weekend slate are in our Saturday predictions column.

Vancouver Canucks history
The Canucks name was 25 years old before the NHL arrived. A minor-professional club had carried it in Vancouver since 1945, and the new team kept it when the league added Vancouver and Buffalo in 1970. Its first game, on 9 October 1970 at the Pacific Coliseum, was a 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. Vancouver missed the playoffs in each of its first four seasons, then won its first division title in 1974-75.
The first Stanley Cup Final came in 1982. The 1981-82 team had a losing regular-season record, but captain Stan Smyl and goaltender Richard Brodeur carried it through the West, and the white towel coach Roger Neilson raised on a stick in protest became a local symbol. The New York Islanders swept the Final. In 1994 a team led by Pavel Bure, Trevor Linden and Kirk McLean came back from 3-1 down against the New York Rangers, then lost Game 7 at Madison Square Garden, 3-2. Markus Näslund’s West Coast Express line carried the early 2000s. The Sedin era peaked in 2010-11 with a franchise-record 117 points and the Presidents’ Trophy, and that spring ended with a 4-0 home loss to Boston in Game 7 of the Final.
A second straight Presidents’ Trophy followed in 2011-12, but Vancouver has not been back to the Final. The 2023-24 team won the club’s first Pacific Division title and a first-round series against Nashville before losing to Edmonton in seven games. The fall since has been steep. The Canucks missed the playoffs in 2025, traded captain Quinn Hughes to Minnesota that December and finished last in the NHL in 2025-26. The Sedins, general manager Ryan Johnson and coach Manny Malhotra now run the rebuild.
Most famous player: Henrik Sedin
Henrik Sedin is the Canucks’ all-time leader in points and assists. Vancouver drafted him third overall in 1999, one pick after his twin brother Daniel, and he played all 1,330 of his NHL games for the club, with 240 goals and 830 assists for 1,070 points. His 112 points in 2009-10 are still a franchise record and made him the first Canuck to win the Art Ross Trophy. He won the Hart Trophy that season too.
He was named captain in October 2010 and kept the C until the twins retired together in 2018. Daniel, the franchise’s all-time goal scorer with 393, won the Art Ross the following season. Their numbers 22 and 33 were retired on the same night in February 2020, both were inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2022, and in May 2026 the brothers became the club’s co-presidents of hockey operations.
Henrik Sedin’s Canucks totals, from the NHL’s official statistics: 1,330 games, 240 goals, 830 assists and 1,070 points.
Stanley Cups
The Canucks have never won the Stanley Cup. They have lost the Final three times since 1927, most recently in 2011.
