Kane and Salah battling for favourite tag
Despite injuries to key players, Liverpool continue to win games and star forward Mohamed Salah continues to score goals. With 13 to his name so far following a spurt of productive form over the festive period, he’s now favourite for the gong with some bookmakers, with Tottenham’s Harry Kane above him in the running at this stage.
Kane actually has three fewer goals at this juncture than Salah with ten – which is also two less than his Spurs team-mate Heung-min Son, but the England skipper is always going to be a threat in this market if he can keep fit for the full campaign.
Who is the favourite to win the Golden Boot?
Salah and Kane are now the favourite for the golden boot with most bookmakers, but the likes of Kane’s Tottenham team-mate Heung-min Son and last season’s winner Jamie Vardy are considered to be close behind in the running, with those two towards the top of the tree in the current top scorer charts.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin enjoyed a blistering start with 11 goals in the first 11 matches of the season, but his chances and odds have diminished somewhat following no goals in five appearances since then whereas Bruno Fernandes’ price has come in considerably, perhaps due to Manchester United’s excellent recent form has much as his individual performances in front of goal.
Bookmaker’s Dark Horses For the Golden Boot
It’s beyond these six where the odds start to lengthen somewhat but given some of the quality in the next handful of players in the market, there could be some serious value to the market here.
It may also be foolish to rule out Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling for example and there is also Salah’s Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane to consider.
Patrick Bamford of Leeds United has never been considered particularly prolific either – but he’s on the same amount of goals as Harry Kane thus far with a total of ten.
Premier League Outright Odds: Other Markets
There are plenty of other outright markets to bet on alongside Top Goalscorer and with some bookmakers, you can combine your top scorer bet with an outright winner bet, even if your chosen player doesn’t play for the team that you’re backing to win the title. You’ll also be able to combine top scorer bets from different leagues and divisions for a pre-season or mid-season accumulator.
Markets such as Outright Winner and To Be Relegated are known to most punters but you can now also bet on markets including a Top Four Finish, a Top Half Finish and next manager to leave their post. With some firms you can now even bet on certain teams to finish above other teams come the end of the campaign. For example, Spurs to finish the season as the highest placed London club.
PFA Player of the Year Odds
Kevin de Bruyne was the standout player in the Premier League last season despite Liverpool’s dominance as a team. The Belgian midfielder was head and shoulders above his opponents at times and managed to win himself the PFA Player of the Year award as a result – and with some bookmakers he is favourite for it again in 2020/21 season.
However, as we know the Premier League is packed with consistently elite performers, particularly at the Etihad Stadium and Anfield. As a result, the likes of Mohamed Salah, Raheem Sterling and Sadio Mane will expect to be in the running.
However, following some incredible displays of late, Kane is also the favourite for the PFA Player of the Year gong now with most bookmakers and if Spurs can keep up their fine recent form for the majority of the season, you wouldn’t back against their star man.
