Premier League 2024/25 most assists: Favourites, predictions and Playmaker Award standings
One of the more recent accolades, the Premier League Playmaker Award focuses on the players setting up the goals.
Historically, goalscorers have been the focus of the attack. But now, more appreciation has been shown to those providing the assists—and the Premier League has many playmakers. Since the Playmaker Award was first given in 2017/18, five players have picked it up, with Kevin De Bruyne leading the way with three.
The Belgian won the first with 16 assists, got his second crown in 2019/20 with a record-equalling 20, and then hit 16 again in 2022/23. However, De Bruyne was knocked off his perch last season by Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, who registered 13 assists. That said, given De Bruyne still managed 10 assists in just 1,227 minutes last season. And you can bet he’ll be in the running again this time around.

Premier League 2024/25 Playmaker Award predictions
Given the numbers we mentioned above, Kevin De Bruyne can never be ruled out of winning this award and if he stays fit for the entire season, it’s actually harder to see the Man City star not winning. And then, of course, Ollie Watkins will be keen on defending his crown, though he’s likely more concerned with the Golden Boot race.
Cole Palmer finished second to Watkins last season with 11 assists as part of a wonderful debut campaign with Chelsea, while De Bruyne was joined on 10 assists by a host of players, including Kieran Trippier, Mohamed Salah and Martin Odegaard.
All of the above will fancy themselves as genuine contenders to top the assist charts, while you should keep an eye on Bruno Fernandes — who created a league-high 114 chances for Man Utd last season — Phil Foden, and Bukayo Saka.
