Some players are blessed with the ability to create chances and others, unfortunately, are not.
It takes a particular type of player to be able to carve out an opportunity for their teammate by spotting a gap in a defensive line, whether through producing a pinpoint pass, whipping in a stunning cross, or executing an accurate set-piece.
The Premier League is home to some of the finest chance creators in the game and the 2021/22 season is no different. Bruno Fernandes entered the season as the league’s most ‘creative’ player, having created 95 chances in 2020/21, eight more than any other player. The Manchester United midfielder finished eight chances ahead of second-placed Mason Mount, who was integral under both Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.
And Fernandes is top of the tree once again, with 44 chances created in his 15 Premier League appearances so far. Only one other player has reached the 40-mark for the campaign and that is Trent Alexander-Arnold, who currently sits two behind Fernandes (though he has played over 153 fewer minutes). Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah is next up having created 33 chances and he is joined by Michail Antonio, who has started this season on a strong note.
Everton’s Andros Townsend completes the top five as things stand with 28 chances created.
But who else is up there fighting to be the creative king? Keep track of the top 10 chance creators below as the 2021/22 campaign progresses.
