Premier League
Andy Francis Andy Francis Liverpool are heavy favourites at Anfield after a bright but leaky 2-2 draw at Newcastle, a result that flattered their attacking quality while exposing early-season defensive rust. Forest, fresh off a home loss to Leeds, will sit deep and look to hit Liverpool on the break, which keeps a goal for the visitors well within reach and supports both teams to score. Szoboszlai remains one of Liverpool’s most consistent shot-takers from midfield, regularly arriving late into the box or shooting from distance, so against a Forest defence still finding its feet, he looks a strong bet to add his name to the scoresheet.

Andy Francis Andy Francis Jair is still adapting to the physicality and tempo of Premier League away days, and up against Liverpool’s rapid front line at a raucous Anfield, a mistimed challenge or tactical foul feels likely, especially if Forest are chasing the game. Gakpo is a fixture in Liverpool’s attack and reliably tests the goalkeeper at least once in home matches. Gibbs-White is Forest’s chief creative outlet and their most persistent source of shots even in defeat, as shown against Leeds, so even with Forest expected to sit off, he should still get at least one effort on target.

Andy Francis Andy Francis Coventry’s return to the top flight began with a harsh 3-0 loss at Arsenal, but the CBS Arena is a far kinder assignment against fellow-promoted Hull. Hull’s stunning win over Manchester United will have boosted belief, yet they were exposed for chances plenty last season and could again leave gaps at the back on the road. Coventry’s front line should find space to test a Hull defence still adjusting to Premier League pace, while Hull’s own counter-attacking threat and physical presence up top give them a route to score as well, making an open contest with goals at both ends a reasonable shout.

Andy Francis Andy Francis Onyeka arrived at Coventry from Brentford and became a key ball-winner in their promotion push, the kind of combative midfielder who regularly puts in firm, sometimes mistimed challenges that catch a referee’s eye. McBurnie leads Hull’s attack with a physical, all-elbows style, often getting under defenders’ skin and picking up cautions for niggly fouls or dissent when frustrated. With both likely to be heavily involved in midfield and box battles at a lively CBS Arena, and neither known for shying away from a robust challenge, a booking apiece feels like a realistic outcome if the game gets feisty.

Andy Francis Andy Francis Both sides arrived with attacking statements on opening weekend: Leeds ground out a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest, while Brentford put three past Tottenham at home, so neither manager is likely to sit back at Elland Road. Calvert-Lewin was Leeds’ talisman last term, finishing as the club’s top scorer and continuing to lead their line as the main goal outlet again this season. Brentford’s own forward line, spearheaded by Igor Thiago and Dango Ouattara, has the firepower to trouble a Leeds defence that shipped plenty of goals last season. With goals expected at both ends and Calvert-Lewin central to everything Leeds create, this combination has clear appeal.

Andy Francis Andy Francis Ampadu was Leeds’ most-cautioned player last season and has already picked up a card in the opening round this term, reflecting his role as the combative anchor shielding the back four in Farke’s setup – exactly the kind of duel-heavy job that invites referee attention in a physical, high-intensity fixture. On the attacking side, Wilson arrives at Leeds as a proven set-piece and shooting threat from wide areas, while Ouattara has emerged as Brentford’s most frequent shot-taker this season. With both wingers likely to get forward and pull the trigger regularly, backing each to register at least one shot on target looks a reasonable bet.

Premier League 26/27 season preview

The 2025/26 Premier League season ended with Arsenal finally getting over the line. After years of near misses, they lifted the title. They finished seven points clear of Manchester City. City’s standards remained high, though they slipped too often to retain their crown. Manchester United secured a strong third-place finish, while Aston Villa continued their rise by comfortably sealing Champions League football. Liverpool rounded out the top five, narrowly ahead of an impressive Bournemouth side. Newly promoted Sunderland, meanwhile, were one of the stories of the season.

At the bottom, West Ham United eventually fell short and were relegated alongside Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves endured a particularly miserable season that yielded only three league wins. Nottingham Forest survived with a little room to spare. Spurs, meanwhile, narrowly avoided one of the biggest relegation shocks in Premier League history.

Looking ahead to 2026/27, Arsenal and Manchester City once again begin as the two main favourites for the title. Arsenal now have the belief and stability that comes with finally becoming champions. City, though, still possess the squad depth and experience to respond strongly, even under new stewardship. Manchester United look capable of pushing closer if they continue improving. Liverpool, too, will expect a much stronger campaign after an inconsistent year.

The race for the top four could be even tighter. Aston Villa have proven they belong among the elite now. However, Chelsea and Newcastle will both be desperate to bounce back into Champions League contention. Bournemouth and Sunderland may find it difficult to repeat last season’s overachievement. However, both have shown they can compete with established sides.

At the other end, the relegation battle already looks fascinating. Tottenham cannot afford another chaotic campaign. Meanwhile, the promoted clubs will hope to avoid the struggles suffered by Burnley and Wolves last term. Teams like Nottingham Forest and Leeds United may also head into the new season with caution. In fact, a poor run could quickly drag either into trouble.

Who won the Premier League title?

Arsenal are the current champions having won the Premier League title during the 2025/26 season.

Our Premier League experts

The Squawka brand is well-respected among football fans worldwide, and with good reason. Our team of writers includes some of the most knowledgeable and passionate Premier League experts. Between them, they bring you weekly tips and previews backed by well-researched, hand-picked stats.

These experts also have access to some of the best data and stats available. As a result, they combine their own knowledge with pure numbers to pick the best bets for each game.

When do Squawka release their Premier League predictions?

We aim to post our Premier League predictions and tips a week before kick-off. Therefore, punters have plenty of time to weigh up their options. Time periods can change depending on fixture congestion, and these tips are always monitored and updated as kick-off draws closer.

For particularly eye-catching fixtures, there may be an array of betting guides and pointers around the site. So keep your eyes peeled for a special Squawka slant ahead of the biggest games on the calendar.

Full-time results and correct scores are among the most popular bets in football. If there’s a wager you’re looking to use your Premier League betting tips on, then they fit the bill.

With each game, the odds will differ, based on form and quality. For instance, imagine the league’s best defence facing off with its weakest attack. You’d expect the stronger side to come out on top, and the odds will reflect that.

More popular in recent years have been both teams to score bets. Even if your team loses, you’ll still emerge with cash in hand. They just need to make it onto the score-sheet alongside the victors.

Obviously, with this being Squawka, we love a stats bet too! These have become more prevalent in the last handful of seasons. Corners, cards, shots, fouls, passes, tackles and offsides are all available markets on certain Premier League fixtures.
