The 2023-24 Serie A season is underway and the race to the Scudetto has begun, as well as the battle for the Capocannoniere.

Victor Osimhen was the runaway winner of last season’s award with his 26 goals firing Napoli to their long-awaited Scudetto. His nearest challenger was Lautaro Martinez; the Inter forward just missing out again with 21 strikes to his name.

Both players have started the new campaign in a similar fashion with Martinez leading the scoring charts with five goals in his first four appearances and has either scored or assisted in every Serie A match so far this term. AC Milan frontman Olivier Giroud and Juve forward Dusan Vlahovic are one goal ahead of Osimhen, who sits on three goals from his first four appearances, alongside Federico Chiesa, Andrea Coplani, Nikola Krstovic and Andrea Pinamonti.

Romelu Lukaku, who finished up as runner-up to Cristiano Ronaldo for the Capocannoniere in 2020/21, is up and running for his new side Roma and manager Jose Mourinho now expects him to kick on, with the Special One knowing how to get the best out of him.

“Romelu needs to feel loved and wanted,” said Mourinho.

“He likes to win – that’s in his nature. I think he’s really happy. “He’s an intelligent player who since arriving has made it clear that first and foremost what matters is that Roma score, not that he scores.”

The Portuguese also couldn’t resist a dig at his former, and Lukaku’s former side Inter and the fans who were upset at the Belgian for not returning on loan from Chelsea.

“They have no reason to be angry.”

“They won the derby 5-1 and have an amazing team with lots of forwards. “They should be happy for their former coach, who needed Lukaku.”

But who will boast Serie A’s golden boot in the 2023-24 season? Here is the early top 10…
