Next Man Utd manager odds have Eddie Howe as the 4/6 favourite with Sky Bet after Sunday’s 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth left Michael Carrick’s future hanging by a thread.
Howe was 9/4 after the 4-1 Champions League thrashing at Como on Wednesday. However, bookmakers have cut him to odds-on since the jeers at Old Trafford. As a result, Sky Bet now give him a 60% chance of being the next permanent Manchester United manager.
Bournemouth were 2-0 up at half-time and then added a third after the break. You can read our full Man Utd vs Bournemouth stats and analysis here. As things stand, United have one win from eight Premier League games and sit 16th on seven points.
Meanwhile, Carrick is now 1/5 with William Hill to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post, the shortest price in the Premier League Sack Race odds. Here are the latest next permanent Man Utd manager odds from Sky Bet.

How the next Man Utd manager odds have moved
The market has changed a lot in five days. After Como, Sky Bet had Howe at 9/4, with Fabian Hurzeler and Antonio Conte joint-second at 5/1 and Julian Nagelsmann at 13/2.
Since then, Howe has gone from 9/4 to 4/6 and Nagelsmann from 13/2 to 5/2. In addition, Unai Emery has come into the market at 17/2. On the other hand, Hurzeler has drifted from 5/1 to 40/1 and Kieran McKenna from 17/2 to 22/1.
Eddie Howe – 4/6
Howe is the clear favourite. William Hill match Sky Bet at 4/6, while Ladbrokes and Coral are a touch bigger at 8/11.
Above all, he has the Premier League experience United’s hierarchy are likely to want. Howe took charge of Newcastle in November 2021, led them into the Champions League twice and won the Carabao Cup, their first major trophy in 70 years. Newcastle are eighth this season.
Julian Nagelsmann – 5/2
Nagelsmann is the big mover behind Howe. The Germany head coach has club experience at Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. However, his contract with the national team runs until after Euro 2028, so getting him to Manchester would take some doing.
Antonio Conte – 5/1
Conte is unchanged at 5/1 with Sky Bet, and William Hill go 7/1. He has won the Premier League with Chelsea and Serie A titles in Italy. Because of that record, his name comes up whenever a big job opens.
Unai Emery – 17/2
Emery is a new name near the top of the betting. He has been at Aston Villa since November 2022 and knows the league inside out from his time there and at Arsenal. Villa visit Old Trafford on 8 November, which could make for an awkward afternoon if Carrick is still in charge.
The outsiders
Kieran McKenna, a former United coach under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is 22/1 with Sky Bet. Likewise, Cesc Fabregas, Gareth Southgate, Thomas Tuchel and Diego Simeone are 22/1. Hurzeler is out to 40/1, which makes sense with Brighton third in the table.

What next for Michael Carrick?
Carrick took over on an interim basis after Ruben Amorim left in January 2026, and United then gave him the job permanently in the summer.
United are without a win in five games in all competitions. They drew 1-1 with Tottenham and lost 2-0 at Atletico Madrid. After that, a 1-1 draw at Leeds followed, then the 4-1 loss at Como and Sunday’s 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.
Next up, United make a trip to Chelsea on Saturday at 12:30. After that, Roma visit Old Trafford in the Champions League on Tuesday 3 November. If Carrick is still in the dugout at Stamford Bridge, that game may decide whether this market is settled sooner rather than later.
