Switzerland got their first win of the 2026 World Cup after hard-fought 4-1 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina.

It wasn’t a pretty game for the most part, with real chances few and far between in the first half. The two sides looked en route to a draw, until Johan Manzambi opened the scoring with just over 15 minutes left to go. He had only been on the field three minutes, replacing Dan Ndoye moments earlier. It was a wonderful finish on the volley, with the power too much for the goalkeeper.

The game changed even more six minutes later, with Tarik Muharemovic sent off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity. Bosnia-Herzegovina did look to still have a chance of securing a draw, but going down to 10 men tipped the game out of their favour. Four minutes later, Switzerland had a second through Ruben Vargas. It was another good finish, low into the bottom corner, after a bit of fortune in the box.

Manzambi make it 3-0 in the 90th minute before Ermin Mahmic pulled one back with the pick of the bunch. There was even enough time for Granit Xhaka to make it 4-1 from the penalty spot. A game that looked set to finish goalless, ended with five goals and a big win for Switzerland. It moves them top of Group B and in a very good position of qualifying for the knockout stages. Bosnia-Herzegovnia, meanwhile, may have seen their knockout stage hopes ended having taken a big goal difference hit.
