Saudi Arabia vs Uruguay Bet Builder Tips
Both teams to score
Uruguay arrive at this World Cup as heavy favourites, but Saudi Arabia carry genuine threat on the counter. Saudi Arabia stunned Argentina 2-1 at the 2022 World Cup and know how to hurt South American opposition. Salem Al-Dawsari, their captain with 109 caps, still has the quality to punish a high defensive line. Uruguay, meanwhile, press relentlessly under Marcelo Bielsa and will dominate possession. Darwin Nunez, Federico Valverde and Giorgian de Arrascaeta all carry a goal threat.
Uruguay’s defensive injuries, with Ronald Araujo and José Gimenez both doubts, open the door for Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia lost 4-0 to Egypt in a pre-tournament friendly, which shows their defensive frailties too. Both sides have the attacking tools to score. The referee, Italy’s Maurizio Mariani, averages 24 fouls per game, which means this fixture could get scrappy and open. Both teams to score represents excellent value.
Darwin Nunez to score anytime
Nunez enters this tournament as Uruguay’s first-choice striker and carries 13 international goals in 38 caps. Marcelo Bielsa builds his 4-3-3 around Núñez as the central attacking reference. He leads the line with physicality and pace, and Saudi Arabia’s defence will struggle to contain him. Saudi Arabia conceded four goals against Egypt in a pre-tournament friendly and lost four of their last five matches heading into the tournament.
Nunez’s movement in behind a high press creates constant danger. He also poses a significant aerial threat at set pieces, and Saudi Arabia’s defensive reorganisation under new coach Georgios Donis adds further uncertainty. Nunez scored nine goals in 24 appearances for Al Hilal this season before terminating his contract. He arrives at the World Cup motivated and hungry. Against a Saudi defence that looks vulnerable, he represents outstanding value to get on the scoresheet.

Brian Rodriguez 2+ shots on target
Rodriguez enters this tournament in the finest form of his career. He registered 47 shots on target across the 2025-26 Liga MX season, ranking sixth in the entire division. He averaged 4.0 shots per game across his last five appearances, recording 4, 4, 3, 4 and 5 in that run – hitting 2+ shots in all five. Rodriguez starts on the left wing for Uruguay and will face a Saudi Arabia right side that will spend much of this match in defensive shape.
Bielsa’s high press and vertical style creates constant transition moments, and Rodriguez thrives in those spaces. Saudi Arabia project just 2.79 shots on target themselves, which tells you how deep they will sit. That invites Rodriguez to carry the ball at them repeatedly. He ranks fifth in Liga MX for progressive carries and loves to drive at defenders. Two shots on target is a conservative ask for a player of his current output.
Abdullah Al Khaibari to be booked
Al-Khaibari is Saudi Arabia’s defensive midfielder and one of the most combative players in their squad. He committed 34 fouls in 1,676 minutes of Saudi Pro League football this season – an average of nearly two per 90 minutes. He also collected five yellow cards across the campaign. Saudi Arabia project 12 fouls per game in this fixture, and Al-Khaibari will carry a significant share of that workload. He will face Valverde, Ugarte and Bentancur in midfield – three physically imposing, technically superior players.
The referee, Maurizio Mariani, averages 3.93 yellow cards per game. Al-Khaibari will need to foul Uruguay’s midfield runners repeatedly to disrupt their rhythm. His disciplinary record and the referee’s profile make this a strong selection. A booking looks a near-certainty for a player who cannot help himself when it comes to putting his foot in.
