West Ham vs Southampton prediction, stats, tips &team news

West Ham United will aim to get back to winning ways on home soil when they host relegated Southampton at the London Stadium on Saturday, April 19th, at 3 p.m. Both clubs endured disappointing campaigns in the English top-flight, but we think there will be goals on Saturday, and you can check out our best bets below.

The Saints are already preparing for life back in the Championship, with their immediate return confirmed with seven matches still to play. Meanwhile, West Ham will be looking to embark on a strong run of form to finish a difficult season on a positive note.

Jarrod Bowen to Win 2+ Fouls (4/5 with Paddy Power)

I will start my reasoning here by saying that this bet has landed in nine consecutive home league matches that Jarrod Bowen has started. West Ham have three foul-magnets in Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen, but it’s the latter of the three who can boast such a streak at the London Stadium. Surprisingly, he’s the biggest price of the three to clear the 2+ fouls won line on Saturday, and at 4/5, I’m happy to get involved and make this my main selection for the afternoon.

Bowen to Score & West Ham to Win & BTTS (4/1 with Paddy Power)

It’s been a horrible campaign for Southampton who could still collect the unwanted record of setting the lowest ever points tally in the Premier League. Saints suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa last week, but I’m backing them to get on the scoresheet against West Ham, who have failed to keep a clean sheet in their previous five. Southampton have scored in four of their last five, against Liverpool, Spurs, Wolves and Crystal Palace, but ultimately I think West Ham will come out on top.

Bowen has only managed eight league goals this season, a tally that he may be a little disappointed with and one that he will look to increase against a Southampton side that has shipped goals for fun this season. The West Ham captain is the top scorer at the club again this term, and with him also on penalty duty, I think he’s got a strong chance of finding the net.

How both teams go into West Ham vs Southampton

West Ham have not won in five games, and although well away from the threat of relegation, the Hammers will want to finish as high as possible and certainly improve their current position of 16th. Having replaced Julen Lopetegui midway through the campaign, Graham Potter will be keen to get it out of the way and start looking ahead to his first full season in charge.

Southampton’s return to the Premier League has been brief and humbling. The Saints will be desperate to give their fans something to cheer about and provide cause for optimism ahead of next season. But for now, their primary focus is on reaching 12 points, thus avoiding recording the lowest tally in Premier League history (currently 11 by Derby County in 2007-08).

West Ham team news

Aaron Cresswell remains unavailable due to a muscular injury, while the game may also be too soon for Crysencio Summerville, who has a thigh problem. Michail Antonio remains a long-term absentee.

Southampton team news

Flynn Downes is set to return after suspension. Paul Onuachu could also come back in after injury. Charlie Taylor is a confirmed absentee.

West Ham vs Southampton head-to-head

West Ham have won the last two meetings between the sides, having prevailed just once in the previous six encounters.
