Where will Crystal Palace finish in the 2024-25 Premier League? Odds, predicted finish, transfers, best players and full squad

There was a lot of optimism surrounding Crystal Palace going into the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.
It’s their first full season under Oliver Glasner, who joined midway through the 2023-24 campaign to steer the Eagles to safety. Some fans were dreaming of a comfortable season, and Palace were given a pre-season 41.7% chance of finishing in the top 10 per implied probability.
Unfortunately Crystal Palace sit in the relegation zone after eight games. They are one of four teams still waiting for their first victory, with three draws and five defeats.
The start to the season has seen Crystal Palace’s odds to be relegated drop to 7/2. This is a 22.2% chance per implied probability. Their chances of finishing in the top half have decreased to 15.4%.
Latest Crystal Palace odds to be relegated from the 2024-25 Premier League
In pre-season, Crystal Palace had an 11.1% chance of going down based on implied probability. So they won’t be happy to have seen their chances improve. A 7.7% implied probability of finishing in the top six has drastically been cut too. Implied probability gives the Eagles a 2.0% chance of breaking the Big Six hegemony.
Crystal Palace’s summer transfer window business
Crystal Palace transfers in
Crystal Palace did add to their squad in the summer, with Eddie Nketiah the highlight. The Eagles also signed Maxence Lacroix, Ismaila Sarr, Daichi Kamada and Chadi Riad, with Trevoh Chalobah and Matt Turner joining on loan.
Crystal Palace transfers out
Crystal Palace’s departures have been given as a reason for their poor start. The Eagles saw Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen both leave, joining Bayern Munich and Fulham respectively. Andersen’s departure came very late in the window, leaving Crystal Palace unable to replace him. Sam Johnstone and Jordan Ayew also left permanently, while Odsonne Edouard departed on loan — all staying in the Premier League.
Who are Crystal Palace’s most important players?
Crystal Palace’s top Premier League Golden Boot contender: Jean-Philippe Mateta
Crystal Palace have scored five goals in the Premier League this season, with Jean-Philippe Mateta the only Eagles player to net more than once. He’s scored twice so far, despite being fairly reserved in front of goal. The Frenchman has had just nine shots in eight Premier League games, at an average of 1.68 per 90 minutes. He’s hit the target three times, at 0.56 per 90.
But there’s confidence in the Frenchman to get back to form. Mateta finished last season on a strong note and you could count on him scoring. He scored 14 goals in his final 16 games, including a hat-trick on the final day of the campaign. It was the first hat-trick scored by a Crystal Palace player at Selhurst Park in Premier League history. His 16 goals was also the second-best return by a Crystal Palace player in a Premier League season, beaten only by Andrew Johnson’s 21 in 2004-05.
Crystal Palace’s primary playmaker: Eberechi Eze
Eberechi Eze leads Crystal Palace in all the attacking metrics. He’s had 33 shots with 11 on target, though he has only scored one goal. And the Englishman is also Crystal Palace’s creative threat. In eight games so far this season, Eze has created 15 chances and two big chances. Only Tyrick Mitchell has created more big chances, but Eze sits six clear of the full-back for normal chances.
Eze is yet to record an assist, but that doesn’t mean his chance creation isn’t good. The Englishman has an xA of 1.12 in the league this season, with 0.82 of that coming from open play. We shouldn’t be surprised as Eze led Crystal Palace for xA and chances created last season. They just need the link up with the Mateta to return.
Crystal Palace’s card magnets & top tacklers: Daniel Munoz
Tyrick Mitchell leads Crystal Palace for tackles in the Premier League this season, with 26 in total. But he knows how to tackle, committing just two fouls while also receiving no yellow cards so far. The same can’t be said for Daniel Munoz.
Playing on the opposite flank to Mitchell, Munoz has made 24 tackles, second among Crystal Palace players. But he has committed 10 fouls so far, the third-most in the Eagles’ squad. He’s also one of three Crystal Palace players to have been booked more than once this season, receiving two yellow cards. He’s already a third of the way to his total fouls number for last season, and needs just two yellow cards to match his 2023-24 tally.
Crystal Palace’s rising star: Adam Wharton
Having arrived from his boyhood club Blackburn earlier this year, many tipped Adam Wharton for great things, but few foresaw what soon transpired. Wharton, comfortable across various midfield positions, alternated between playing in front of Palace’s defence or more centrally.
His composure and technique earned plaudits and an England call-up, resulting in a 28-minute cameo against Bosnia before making the Three Lions’ full Euro 2024 squad, although he never got onto the pitch. Wharton, who turns 21 next February, is expected to see his development accelerate, and who knows where that could take him. Wharton has started seven of Crystal Palace’s eight games in the league this season but has underwhelmed, struggling with an injury issue. Some fans have called for him to undergo surgery to correct the problem, rather than have him on the pitch with games passing him by.

Crystal Palace 2024-25 player ratings*
- GK: Dean Henderson – 71% – Crystal Palace’s season could be going worse if it weren’t for Dean Henderson. The shot-stopper has averaged 0.36 goals prevented per 90 minutes in the league, in the top five among goalkeepers.
- RWB: Daniel Munoz – 59% – Daniel Munoz isn’t too involved going forward, but he has decent returns defensively. The Colombian has averaged 2.54 tackles won and 2.4 aerial duels won per 90 in the Premier League this season.
- CB: Nathaniel Clyne – 48% – This was a necessary play for Crystal Palace in the early season, as they suffered from a lack of numbers. And Nathaniel Clyne didn’t look comfortable at centre-back, despite his 2.38 tackles won per 90. Although he has recently lost his place in the team to Maxence Lacroix, who has a score of 73%.
- CB: Marc Guehi – 67% – Crystal Palace were set of keeping Marc Guehi in their squad this summer. And he’s averaged six clearances and 6.25 long passes completed per 90 in the Premier League this season.
- CB: Chris Richards – 56% – He has recently lost his spot to Trevoh Chalobah, but Chris Richards has averaged 1.3 tackles won and 3.39 clearances per 90 in the league.
- LWB: Tyrick Mitchell – 63% – Tyrick Mitchell has been decent this season, with 0.13 intentional assists and 0.4 big chances created per 90 minutes. He’s also averaged 2.54 tackles won per 90.
- CM: Adam Wharton – 52% – Adam Wharton has had a slow season due to carrying an injury, with 1.34 tackles won and 1.17 interceptions retaining possession per 90. He has also completed just 62.96% forward passing accuracy.
- CM: Will Hughes – 40% – Will Hughes won’t be Crystal Palace’s first-choice starter in midfield. The Englishman has averaged just 1.17 successful passes into the penalty area per 90 in the league this season.
- AM: Daichi Kamada – 50% – Daichi Kamada hasn’t been the attacking outlet Crystal Palace have needed, and he may drop deeper. He’s averaged just 0.05 xA per 90 in the league this season.
- AM: Eberechi Eze – 64% – Eberechi Eze has averaged 1.38 shots on target per 90 this season, with 6.13 penalty area entries and 3.88 touches in the opposition box. He’ll be hoping to unlock more defences across the campaign though.
- ST: Jean-Philippe Mateta – 48% – We’re still waiting for the Jean-Philippe Mateta of last season to turn up. This season the Frenchman has averaged 0.37 goals per 90 and just 0.56 shots on target.
Since arriving, Oliver Glasner has exclusively used a back three. This season he has favoured the 3-4-2-1, with two narrow attacking midfielders allowing the wing-backs to get forward.
But Glasner is yet to find the right combination of personnel. Injuries haven’t helped, especially at centre-back, with Glasner only just getting into what you’d expect to be his first-choice back three. Dean Henderson has been solid in goal, though.

How do Squawka player ratings work?*
Squawka’s new player rating system is completely stats-based. Player scores are based on the numbers they put up across a range of on-ball events, from goals scored to tackles won.
Using extensive research and our expertise, we’ve tailored each score to the player’s position. For example, forwards’ scores are based on metrics such as shots on target, touches in the opposition box and big chances created. Meanwhile, centre-backs are rewarded for winning aerial duels, making blocks, successful long-range passes and so on.
