Spain vs Cape Verde Bet Builder Tips
Over 4.5 Goals
Spain arrive as one of the most prolific sides in international football. La Roja scored 19 unanswered goals in their first five qualifiers. They also set a record at a single European Championship, netting 15 times in seven games at Euro 2024.
Cape Verde, meanwhile, lack a reliable goalscorer. There is also a big drop-off between their starting XI and the bench. Spain’s midfield trio of Pedri, Rodri and Fabián Ruiz should dominate the ball and create chance after chance. Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams returned to full training this week and could feature. Even without them, Spain have Ferran Torres, Álex Baena and Mikel Oyarzabal up top. Cape Verde lean on set pieces and direct counters. Spain’s press should shut those down.
Mikel Oyarzabal – First goalscorer
Oyarzabal arrives in the finest form of his international career. He has scored or assisted in 12 straight starts for Spain. That is a remarkable streak. Under Luis de la Fuente, his record reads 19 goals and eight assists in 32 caps. Among European players over that period, only Erling Haaland has a better combined goals-and-assists rate per 90.
Oyarzabal starts as Spain’s first-choice striker. He should face a Cape Verde defence with no experience at this level. The Spaniard also scored six goals in qualifying, finishing joint-top scorer. His clever movement between the lines makes him hard to track. And with Yamal and Williams likely eased in off the bench, he carries the biggest goal threat from the start.

Jamiro Monteiro to be booked
Jamiro Monteiro is Cape Verde’s key creative player. He also carries a heavy disciplinary record. Across his club career, the midfielder has picked up 54 yellow cards. That includes two yellows and a red in the Eredivisie this season alone. At club level, he commits over one foul per 90. Monteiro also works in the tight areas where Spain’s midfield will dominate. So he will have to graft off the ball to disrupt their rhythm.
All that pressing and tackling against a side of Spain’s quality raises the chance of a rash challenge. He also drifts wide and drops deep often, so he covers plenty of ground and enters more duels than most midfielders. Pedri and Fabián Ruiz will draw fouls in central areas. As Cape Verde’s main ball-winner and creator, Monteiro will be under constant pressure.
