Newcastle vs Chelsea prediction

Newcastle United host Chelsea at St James’ Park on Sunday 11th May at 12pm in what will be a big game for the Premier League top five.

Newcastle have lifted themselves up to fourth in the table after a fantastic run, while Chelsea are one point and one place behind. This game will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 1.

Newcastle to win (11/10 with Betway)

Newcastle have won their past three home games against Chelsea across all competitions. Chelsea have also won just one of their past nine away league games, and have only won four games outside of London this season. With so much riding on this game for both sides, it could come down to fine margins and home advantage could count for a lot in this tie. Newcastle are on a five game winning streak at St James’ Park, whilst Chelsea have lost three of their last five away from home.

Alexander Isak to score anytime (19/20 with Betway)

Alexander Isak has scored in each of his past four games against Chelsea across all competitions. The Swedish striker has been in fine form this season, scoring 32 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions so far this season. He’ll be keen to add to that tally and, with his sensational record against Chelsea, looks to be good odds to score at 19/20 with Betway.

How both teams go into Newcastle vs Chelsea

The Premier League has five spots for qualification to next season’s Champions League, which will provide drama in the final weeks of the campaign. Newcastle have put themselves in a good position with four games left to play, but it’s still very open. The Magpies enjoyed a run of six wins from seven to climb into third, two points clear of sixth-placed Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle’s form has dropped off a little bit, with a loss to Aston Villa and a draw with Brighton coming either side of a convincing 3-0 with over Ipswich Town. This has seen their position in the top five seem a little less secure but they are still in the driving seat when it comes to a top five finish. There are only three points separating them from seventh placed Aston Villa though, so they’ll need to keep picking up points or risk dropping out of the all important Champions League qualification places.

Chelsea are unbeaten in six in the league, but they’ve dropped points in two of those games, including against now-relegated Ipswich Town. It’s a run that has seen the Blues drop to fifth and not fancied to qualify for the Champions League. Chelsea have a tough final run-in against the teams around them, facing Nottingham Forest on the final day of the campaign. They’ll need to win at St James’ Park to keep their hopes alive.

A win over Liverpool last time out showed their grit though and they still hold the advantage over the two sides below them in the race for Champions League football. Anything other than a win could see them drop as low as seventh though, showing the importance in picking up as many points as possible with just three games left to play of what has proved to be an exciting season.

Newcastle team news

Joelinton, Jamaal Lascelles, Lewis Hall and Matt Targett are all expected to miss this game.

Chelsea team news

Marc Guiu may be in contention by the time this game comes around, and Malo Gusto should be back. But Wesley Fofana and Omari Kellyman are out for the season.

Newcastle vs Chelsea head-to-head

Newcastle have won their past three games against Chelsea at St James’ Park across all competitions. This includes a 2-0 win in the Carabao Cup this season, en route to winning the trophy.
