Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has spoken out about his future in north London, saying a decision whether he remains at the club is out of his hands.
The 29-year-old Egyptian has been at the club since 2016, but he has never really established a consistent starting berth in the heart of the Gunners’ midfield, appearing in the Premier League over 20 times in just one of his six seasons at the Emirates.
Despite taking up a largely peripheral role in the capital, which has included a loan spell away from the club in 2019/20 for Besiktas, Elneny has really come to the fore for Mikel Arteta’s men in recent weeks, revitalising his career for the Gunners at a point when he could be about to leave.

Elneny’s current contract at the Emirates is set to expire this summer, but there has been clamour from many fans for the midfield metronome to extend his current stay, owing to a string of impressive displays since coming into the fold against Chelsea last month.
That 4-2 win at Stamford Bridge proved Elneny’s first start of the year and his first Premier League appearance in 11 matches, and he duly seized the opportunity, proving a composed figure in the centre of the pitch amid a frantic, see-sawing game.

Since then, Elneny has continued to impress and there are now rumours he could be set to extend his stay at the club. Uncertainty remains, but that notion is certainly not coming from the Egyptian’s side of things, who has outlined his desire to remain at Arsenal.
“I’ve said before, if Arsenal want me, it’s my club, my family, but it’s not my decision,” he told Sky Sports. “I have to wait for them to say ‘Mo, we want you’.
“Since the first day I have been here, it has felt like a family. We really work like that here, it’s such a beautiful club.”
