Germany Women vs Spain Women prediction, stats, tips & team news

Germany Women will be hoping to reach the Women’s Euro 2025 final when they face world champions Spain Women at Stadion Letzigrund on Wednesday 23rd July at 8pm (UK time). DFB-Frauen are the record eight-time European champions but were beaten finalists three years ago. Spain, meanwhile, are only in the semi-finals for the second time in their history but are major favourites. This game will be broadcast live on BBC One.

Over 2.5 Spain goals (29/20 with BetMGM)

To say Spain have been ruthless in front of goal would be an understatement. No side in the competition have scored more goals than La Roja‘s 16. The world champions average four goals per 90 minutes. They’ve only failed to score at least three goals in a single game once so far, and that was in their 2-0 quarter-final win over Switzerland. But it should be noted Spain missed two penalties and had six attempts on target.

Over 8.5 Spain corners (29/10 with BetMGM)

It comes as no surprise that Spain have dominated possession at Women’s Euro 2025, averaging 73.5% per game. Of their overall total of 3,414 touches, 1,260 have been in the attacking third. As a result, La Roja have won 36 corners across their previous four matches. Germany were on the back foot in their past two games, with the eight-time former champions playing 59 and 107 minutes, respective, down to 10 players. There’s no guarantee DFB-Frauen will receive another red card, but considering how Spain are likely to control the game’s tempo, there’s a strong chance Christian Wuck will set out his side to play more conservatively. As a result, you’d expect Spain to win a lot of corners.

How both teams go into Germany vs Spain

A humbling matchday three loss to Sweden saw Germany fall into the more challenging knockout stage bracket. It setting up a quarter-final showdown with a rampant French team who had finished their group campaign with a perfect record. That encounter was Germany’s record 50th in this competition, and they arguably put in their most valiant performance to date.

For a second consecutive match, they were reduced to 10 players before half-time, but the scores were level at the break. Sjoeke Nusken cancelled out Grace Geyoro’s opener from the spot after Kathrin Hendrich was shown a straight red for hair-pulling. The Germans eventually scraped through on penalties, thanks to Ann-Katrin Berger’s unbelievable save in extra time to prevent a costly own goal. And they won the shootout, for their eighth win from their last nine matches. In doing so, Germany ensured a record 11th Euros semi-final, all from the last 12 editions.

Pre-tournament favourites Spain have certainly lived up to expectations, leaving many wondering how to counter their formidable performance. Under the guidance of Montse Tome, the world champions dominated their group stage campaign, averaging an impressive 4.7 goals per match. In the quarter-finals, Switzerland aimed to leverage their home advantage but ultimately fell 2-0, with the scoreline reflecting a match that could have been more lopsided. La Roja‘s strength extends beyond their attacking prowess; they have scored 16 goals while conceding only three. Remarkably, this semi-final marks just their second appearance in the Women’s European Championship, and the first since 1997.

Germany team news

Germany captain Giulia Gwinn remains sidelined with a knee injury she picked up on matchday one. But there’s some good news for Christian Wuck with Carlotta Wamser returning from suspension following her red card against Sweden in their final group match. However, Kathrin Hendrich and Sjoeke Nusken will be missing. Hendrich was shown a straight red against France while the latter reached the yellow card limit.

Spain team news

Laia Aleixandri is suspended after receiving a second consecutive yellow card against Switzerland last time out. This should see Real Madrid defender Maria Mendez come into central defence to partner Irene Paredes.

Germany vs Spain head-to-head

Germany have not lost in eight encounters with Spain, winning five and drawing three, with an overall goal difference of 18-3. They won the Bronze Medal Match between these two sides at the Olympics last summer and the Euro 2022 meeting.
