Paris Saint-Germain retained their European crown after beating Arsenal on penalties in the 2025-26 Champions League final. They’re just the ninth club in Champions League/European Cup history to win competition in back-to-back seasons and the first new side since AC Milan in 1990.
Arsenal opened the scoring in Budapest inside 10 minutes, with Kai Havertz expertly finishing his chance — the German has now scored in two Champions League finals. But Arsenal sat back looking to protect their lead, eventually allowing PSG back into the game. The equaliser came from the penalty spot after Cristhian Mosquera upended Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, with Ousmane Dembele converting.
The game went all the way to penalties and PSG got an advantage when Eberechi Eze sent his spot-kick wide. But Nuno Mendes missed the following penalty and Declan Rice scored to make it 2-2 after three spot-kicks each. PSG scored their next two, which left it on Gabriel Magalhaes to keep Arsenal in the tie but the Brazilian sent his penalty over the bar.
Arsenal are the third English team to lose two consecutive Champions League final appearances, having also lost in their showpiece debut in 2006. But they were able to console themselves knowing they had already lifted the Premier League title, ending a 22-year wait for that trophy.
